There are many people who work very hard but will never be as rich as the top 1%. I think this is why people are upset at his comments because it does come of as ignorant in a way. that was kind of you to put it like that. he sounds like the ignorant dirtbag that he is. “Fantastic, chic, freak, slay.”
stevana229 1,884
All of these millionaire celebrities should be DONATING money to the middle class Americans. like seriously? they're literally ALL sitting in their mansions eating whatever their chef makes that day... meanwhile, people in this country cant even feed their kids. horrible. even if celebs donated 1000 to some random middle class families who lost their jobs, it would make a world of a difference

ChromeAngel 3,230
The best drag was calling him the “baby singer”. He’s never going to live down that stupid song. I hope it makes him cringe for the rest of his life. sorry but I’m bitter and so sick of these celebrities. Now that I’m getting older I’m realizing how unimportant Hollywood is and how stupid I was for caring about any of these people. It was such a waste of time. It’s so alluring and mindlessly entertaining. But it’s also mind numbing. It’s like a drug.

It’s like a drug. common sense and well put, LISTEN EVERYONE!! plus, it’s ruining both lives of the audience and theirs as well. look at Justin Bieber for example. he is clear evidence. he wasn’t supposed to be/act so dumb especially cause like he said, he has all this money. it’s embarrassing but that’s not even a thing anymore for so many people, I’m afraid. he is just desperate for that attention I guess “Fantastic, chic, freak, slay.”
Bebe 17,106
The frustration is that people can and do work just as hard, if not harder than the three of them and will not get anywhere close to their level of success. Both Kendall and Hayley where born into an obscene amount of wealth. There's such a disassociation from both the hyper wealthy and the middle/lower class that it's interesting to me. This cultural narrative around capitalism is so strong that we struggle to face even basic facts: 1. We do not live in a meritocracy. Wealth is not distributed based on merit and hard work. 2. There are some hardworking people, without the privileges and access to opportunity these three have, that have lost jobs and are anxious over how they will afford rent, food and other essentials. 3. These hardworking people might get justifiably offended at three mega-rich celebrities stroking their egos by talking about how they "think" about how blessed they are and "acknowledge" those in crippling financial situations while justifying their own obscene wealth and spending on hard work and merit. Bradley 59,243
I think it's the way he said it. The general message of what he said sounds fine but certain words seemed insensitive: "crappy situation" "they look at us" "We've worked hard for where we're at" There are some rather direct references to their elevated situation here whereas Gaga made it more subtle and empathetic, so Gaga's like "I understand that we're in different boats but we love you and we would love to help in anyway we can." whereas Justin's like "I do feel bad for them but look at how different we are. Us vs Them."

This, precisely. The whole statement is vacuous, it's basically the equivalent of "Well, I mean... that sucks, I guess."
