How Lady Gaga became the face of Covid-19 relief (Vogue)

"Celebrities are mobilizing to help fight the coronavirus pandemic in various ways—from allocating money to launching fundraisers to donating masks to supporting medical personnel—but few have tackled the challenge with as much zeal as Lady Gaga.

This week, the 34-year-old pop star announced that along with the music festival organization Global Citizen, she would be throwing a virtual concerton April 18 to benefit the World Health Organization. The live show, which will also feature Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Kacey Musgraves, and other stars, in addition to Lady Gaga herself, will be free to the viewing audience; by the time Lady Gaga announced it, she had already raised $35 million for COVID-19 relief.

Lady Gaga appears to be concentrating all her efforts on fighting the effects of COVID-19 for the time being, even delaying the release of her next album, which was originally scheduled to drop on April 10; “It just doesn’t feel right to me to release this album with all that is going on during this global pandemic,” Lady Gaga wrote on Twitter.

In an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe this week, she talked about lobbying 68 corporate CEOs to provide funding for the show, called “One World: Together at Home,” and why she decided to get involved. “What drew me to this,” she said, “was, how can we create a two-hour special that, in a time of crisis, highlights the singularly kind global community that is emerging?” She added, “This is not just a historic moment, it is a cultural moment.”

Early in the pandemic, many had criticized Lady Gaga’s father, Joe Germanotta, for creating a GoFundMe for his restaurant when his daughter is worth nearly $300 million; however, according to “Page Six” sources, Lady Gaga “had no idea” about her father’s plan to ask the public for help and wouldn’t have allowed it had she known.

Ultimately, Lady Gaga’s actions speak loudest of all, and so far, those actions—from raising more money for COVID-19 relief than any other single celebrity to providing a cost-free source of entertainment to a global audience who badly needs it—provide a useful example for those struggling to figure out how to help amid this crisis."

I know she called Paul McCartney and Andrea Bocelli, she probably called Elton too. Idk about the others, but I would think so, it seems like she's involved pretty heavily on this entire project.

We're far from the Shallow now

I don't think that's what they mean. They mean she's the face of COVID 19 relief. Or the face of charity for it. While other celebs are are home singing imagine, she's using her influence to raise money for those doctors in particular. At least that's what I got from the article.
