I don't know. And some its probably too indirect to really calculate

 

For example we do not cover prescriptions in most circumstances and they estimate 1/3 of prescriptions go unfilled in Canada because people can't pay for it. Not taking meds you need could cause you to die earlier or get health complications but your cause of death officially may not be labels under lack of healthcare. Many pertend to take their meds and don't so the doctor sometimes doesn't even know

 

Excluding that our lack of coverage wouldn't generally cause deaths because most are not life and death things. Private Healthcare:

 

- Drugs

- Vision care

- Some types of mental health care like phychologists (in most cases)

- chiropractors/phisio (depends on the circumstances for this one)

- some types of specialists

- medical equipment such as wheel chairs, casts or other things people need is normally not covered in most cases either

- Some types of immunisations that are not mandatory (like Hepatitis A for example)

 

What is covered Universally in Canada:

 

- Family Doctor visits

- ER visits

- Tests such as X-rays, cat scans, ultrasounds, MRIs etc

- Most types of surgeries

- mandatory immunizations + flu shot

- in-patient Hospitalizations

- some types of mental healthcare lime phychiatrist

 

So at least the most critical stuff likes hospitals, tests and surgeries is free so I don't imagine we get many deaths due to lack of health coverage. Prescriptions is probably the only major issue there

 

However it's still a pain for the privatized segments. If your poor and have no insurance it's an issue to get your teeth fixed, or your eyes checked, or get a phychologists if you want sessions besides just a phychologist

 

Our system definitely is more universal than the US but there's many privatized gaps that some European Countries got covered we do not. 

 

I read before Canada's overall healthcare costs are 70% Government funded and 30% are insurance and out of pocket. Not sure how accurate those estimates are but it sounds about right to me

Wasn’t Bernie going to start off with lowering the Medicare age to 55?

Once you start extending Medicare down, you cover the higher risk populations. Then the ACA can be readily affordable to those 26-50 or 55 without a mandate. 

Also, those that are financially secure can go ahead and retire early, freeing up jobs for those that are younger. Many people in their late fifties to early sixties work until they can get on Medicare.
