Quite frankly many people (myself included) didn't take it seriously when it first appeared. Lots of folks just blew it off as an "exaggerated flu" and thought the media/medical professionals were blowing it out of proportion. This lack of awareness resulted in a superbly horrible reaction to the virus. Despite some governors acting quickly, it wasn't quite enough; the damage was already done. We are entering the darkest of times in regards to COVD. But as they say, it's always darkest before dawn. The next month is going to be truly terrifying.

Such a shame. I feel so sorry for you all and I hope you all make it out okay and stay safe

April is going to be a scary month in terms of developments around this indeed.

Two things:

1) have you read that the US might've been the source of the coronavirus?

2) did you like Veep's finale?

America had nothing to gain from releasing a pandemic then taking the slowest response of any major country. Biologists have found nearly identical viruses in animals native to China. This is a politically motivated conspiracy planted by the communist party. If there was any reasonable cause to believe the US did this, China would have already declared war.

Trump is responsible for every single death that happens on American soil because of his slow response, but that's where his hand in this begins and ends.

Not surprised, I'm in NJ and we have been on stay at home for at least 2-3 weeks, I forget how much time actually it's been a while. I'm still seeing people in groups and going out for shits and giggles. I'm also an essential employee so I am seeing people that have zero reason to be out. I knew once the virus hit here it was going to hit hard, but it didn't help when our President was calling it a hoax and political propaganda, the firing of our pandemic team a few years ago and the fact that our President is also being picky choosy as to who gets supplies. It's a mess. Should've been preparing since January.

It will still be passed from person to person until there's nobody left. Some people need to stop acting so stupid and they need to stay the hell inside. We aren't really safe until there's a vaccine.

PS: I'm so sorry about your friend @KindnessPunk28 and I hope they feel better soon. My mom's best friend is in the hospital now with it too, so terrifying.

1. i did read that, but i don't believe it (so far). also i think my comment could be interpreted that i think china is to blame, which is not what i mean. i blame the president 100,000 percent for his sh*t response.

2. i did! i thought it was good. as crazy as the last season got, it pretty much matched pace with how insane US politics has gotten. i think if you watch veep from start to finish, in terms of the craziness, i think it's a pretty good barometer measuring the sudden change the US went through (and continues to go through). i liked the optimism of the last episode the most i think, that after meyer things got better for the US with a splett presidency :)

1. Nothing confirm on the source, might be conspiracy theories. They're saying Italy was also a probable source. And yeah, that person is to blame.

2. Yes, it was all building up to that moment. I specially loved how she GOT TO WORK on that last episode. It was truly inspiring.  I will miss this show for all of its naughty and uncensored dialogues. And it's does resemble most influences in today's  merican politics and society.

My reply didn't post yet cause they're also blaming Italy. But anyways, you should read more about the possible benefits to those currently in power... blue states the hardest hit? USPS to shutdown because of funding? Postponing certain events and campaigns leading to November 3rd? Not possible to vote by mail under a national lockdown? My hearts is with the public as they are just in the middle of these power moves.

one of the writers from veep recently wrote a short piece on how selina meyer handled the coronavirus outbreak. it was kind of funny. https://www.vulture.com/2020/04/veep-coronavirus-episode.html

I’m worried that it will continue to get worse. People aren’t taking this serious. I went to the grocery store today and I was the only one wearing a mask.

then how the hell did she lose 2024 if she handled this so well?!

Edit: TBH Selina gets too much hate...I think a real-life version of her would be seen as incredibly competent and would've served 2 full terms.

OT: https://covid19.healthdata.org/projections

peak deaths on April 16th. Currently looking at 80,000 total deaths, but could be up to 150k. IDK where the 200k number is coming from, but I trust the IMHE the most rn.

I won't believe the 100,000 to 200,000 toll til I see it, it's too much of a jump from the current death toll, it could happen though, I hope it won't. Stay safe everybody :ohno:

I think a professor or some institute did their own prediction. And they predicted around 90k deaths by August.

It'll really depend on it NY can bend their curve and if the rest of the country doesn't spread a new epicenter. Other parts of the country are still a week behind NY.
