Also why are y'all mad? This movie is literally one of the only mainstream gay movies that actually represents love in a good way and no one dies. It actually represents how hard it is for gay people to love. I myself am straight and I loved how we finally got a normal gay movie without death along with Love Simon.

I actually felt that the movie was very artsy fartsy and pretty backward compare to many other recent gay movies/tv series.

I think the movie is very overrated and I think because the young gay generation didn't watch many old gay films, which are much much better..

I think I understand your mainstream remark, the straight GP digested this movie pretty well and one reason is that they went safe with portraying the gay love and kinda questioning the gay love.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

IDK.. I just think that it's more focused on love part than on sex part and I like it.. I watched many gay movies before and almost all of them are 70% sex scenes where someone dies at the end.. Or they are just plain bad..

Can you give me examples of good gay representation movies in your opinion?

I would say CMBYN is Brokeback Mountain minus the death.

I am straight and you don't have to agree with me on this one because you know the struggle so much better than me but God's Own Country is IMO such a bad representation of gay romance. I as a straight woman thought it's the representation of toxic romance at best. That movie is just plain sex, violence and dirt all over. I just didn't like it at all and unfortunately I think a lot of other straight people would agree. If we want to make people fall in love with gay characters and if we want people to understand the community then let's show them that gay people are MUCH more than just sex in barns.. Let's show them that gay people can love without sex.. Let's show them that it doesn't have to be so out of place.. Do you understand what I'm trying tot say?

And again you don't have to agree with me at all.

Pride is wonderful, there are no sex scenes, just I think a dildo, few dancers in minimal clothes and maybe a pic or 2 of naked guys and pretty much that's it.

What I love about this movie is that it's a real story and you don't really hear good real stories about the community and the straights communities in the 80s, all you hear about the bad things, but there was good too, there's no death in the movie too, it ends with a happy ending.

Sexual awakening is an essential part of LGBT equal rights, there is nothing wrong with having sexual scenes if it served good purpose.

If you mean happy-ending story, I would say more than 40% of recent years' LGBT movies are one of those, LGBT movies are heading for a more happier trend lately.

I agree but sexual scenes won't get you any chance at changing people's minds on gay people when they already think gays are some kind of sex obsessed humans.. For example look at straight romance movies.. We rarely see as much sex.. Right? All straight coming of age movies and sexual awakening movies are not THAT centered around sex.. Majority of straight people doesn't want to see that and therefore I think it's not the right way to represent you. IDK..

If you don't like it then it's not for audience like you.

It perfectly described what's it like to live as a gay immigrant in different culture, a low class farmer who don't know love and have no meaning to live, and how two lonely souls heal and make each other a better person. If all you see is sexual scenes, then you don't understand this film.

Okay I'm sorry.. I just gave you my point of view because I kinda know what straight people like to see but okay..

Lord Temptation

I had never cried as much in a cinema as I did when I watched the first CMBYN. Since watching Willow as a kid in the 90s! :kara:

Maleficent

What story is left to tell. This could be a cinematic masterpiece on par with the Golden-Age classics. Don't cheapen it by "franchising" it (like they did with Basic Instinct).

What I personally love the most about CMBYN is the detail that has gone into this movie. There are so many little bits that you only notice after the second third or fourth rewatch that enhance it so much. (Annella's glances for example).

It is also filled with metaphors etc which may add to the feeling for some that it is a bit pretentious but I love it. I literally read dozens of analysis and characterization about this movie because it is so well made.

Now since everyone is listing additional gay movies I'd like to add Closet Monster to the mix. That movie is fantastic and it has my favorite soundtrack ever (Allie X is on it btw)
