Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino appears to have confirmed that the sequel movie will reunite the cast from the first film. Starring Timothée Chalamet as Elio and Armie Hammer as Oliver, the 2017 coming-of-age movie – an adaptation of André Aciman’s novel of the same name – won an Oscar and has become an instant gay classic.

While details of the sequel are unknown, Guadagnino told Italian newspaper LaRepubblica that he was due to go to the US to meet with a potential writer, but that meeting has been cancelled – presumably due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He told the the publication: "It is a pleasure to work again with Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg, Esther Garrel, and the other actors. They will all be in the new movie.”

Aciman released the sequel novel, Find Me, last year, which begins 10 years after the end of Call Me By Your Name, and focuses more on Elio’s father, Sami. A further decade or so passes during the book, so it’s unclear how closely the film sequel will follow Find Me, and how they’d tackle ageing Chalamet and Hammer to reflect the characters’ ages. Guadagnino has previously suggested the new film might take place just a few years after the first, exploring the AIDS crisis in Berlin in 1989 – a clear diversion from Aciman’s story. His recent comments will come as a relief to fans of Call Me By Your Name who have hoped a sequel would be forthcoming – and that it would star the now-Hollywood heartthrob actors.

In 2018, Chalamet said he and Hammer were “1000 per cent in” for reprising their roles as Elio and Oliver, but last year Hammer seemed to be having second thoughts. “It felt like a really perfect storm of so many things, that if we do make a second one, I think we’re setting ourselves up for disappointment,” he said to Vulture, adding: “If we end up with an incredible script, and Timmy’s in, and Luca’s in, I’d be an asshole to say no.”

The first movie was soo good.

I hope the sequel has nothing to do with the second book because it is trash

The biggest thing I want honestly is that they DO NOT make the ending of the first book canon

Spoiler

I want a happy ending for them where they don't have to wait until they're like over 40:lmao:

Yall can say what you want but it was the first movie to make me cry :messga:

Though I'm just not sure how they intend to have the sequel movie and how it will match the book. In the book sequel this is supposed to be made after, Oliver and Elliot dont reunite or anything, it's more about them finding qualities they saw in each other in other people and puts a heavy focus on the relationships of Elliot's father.

I'm interested, just sorta nervous about them f*cking it up :selena:  (Though I am happy to see that they might take it a different route instead of following the second book)

Secret

Watched the first one with my ex-boyfriend and it hurted a lot. Watching the sequel alone seems like a perfect choice for my heart:bradley:
