I’m prepared to get dragged but i don’t think this was staged/a joke. It would be really uncharacteristic for Gaga to do something like that during a time like this. I really believe she’s working on something to help aid the crisis (probably more proactive than just donating money or manufacturing masks/hand sanitizer) hence the announcement. We know she’s in contact with the WHO so i imagine it’s more “hands on”. But i seem to be the only one who feels this way... maybe I’m just really naive idk. Plus if it was a joke it wouldn’t be prolonged til Monday. And she seems to be a very self aware of her status in society and how her actions can be perceived so i don’t think she’s just hyping up an announcement for something just like a donation.

Because it’s a dark, scary time in the world and she is being funny, trying to bring light to the world and make people laugh for a minute. That’s it.

Remember the famous “I don’t remember ARTPOP” tweet? And then in the Paper magazine, she talked about how she was joking and felt so annoyed that people take her seriously all the time and she can’t make jokes? Same thing.

Yes very uncharacteristic to promote something she’s going to announce (that is probably biggish considering she has been working with the WHO) and to try and make people laugh during a crisis. Out of character Totesmagoats. 
 

You guys wanted her to do some stuff during this crisis - and now she is and everyone is making it Watergate. 

I will give you the reasons why it could have seemed off (not that anyone here listens to me) 

1) Fallon is completely untalented and should not have his job.

2) These productions are not easily put together anymore with everyone working from home. It’s now spit and glue, like putting on a school play. 

3) LMs are more dramatic than Gaga ever was and think everything is a conspiracy.

Rewatching it I don't think it was a joke. Why would the Tonight Show web team be shuffling around her date on their website in the exact order / timing as the phone calls? She appeared on Friday and stayed there for a while, then disappeared and moved to Monday and it seems like the timing matched up between the phone calls of when this was taped earlier this afternoon/evening. It just seems like a really elaborate prank to set up the Gaga diehards monitoring the site and I'm sure their staff is partially furloughed right now/dealing with a whole bunch of other pressing stuff.

Obviously there was a playful nature about this, but I think Jimmy really expected her to make an announcement today and I think she really delayed it to Friday and then to Monday. Which is probably why her team did not promote this at all, because it was a mess.
