Canadas Central until recently had refused to do what USA, Japan, European Central Bank and other Countries have done after 2008 crisis which is Money Printing to buy up assets such as government debt which is also called "Quantitative Easing". That is until now!

Canada will print $5 Billion a week ($260 Billion annually) to buy Government debt and mortgage back securities to force bond yields down and to keep liquidity in the financial system until the current crisis is over

The advantage of QE is that excess money created by the central bank can be removed from the system as the economy improves and inflationary pressures rise.

Once a Central Bank starts selling back the assets it purchased with printed money, they money it gets back from the sales can be destroyed and taken back out of existance to prevent high inflation

all this because there’s a 0.66% chance u may die.

Spoiler

why are humans the only species alive that think it is their god given gift to live long, pain-free lives?

Canada better be on top of this and remove the money from circulation the second there is inflationary pressure

I've always been critical of QE and use it as an absolute last resort

Never thought Canada would resort to it tho we always had a hawkish Central Banker

In fact before corona at 1.75% we had the highest rates in the developed world (after the US cuts went below that)

I was shocked too especially the amount they plan to print.

This is way more dovish than I would have expected from Canada's Central Bank :emma:

I dunno if any of this will be printed in plastic. Probably all electronic (in fact the way QE works I imagine all of it would be electronic)

But imagine if I had a press to make some in plastic and make whatever amount I wanted :awesome:

Same. Even tho if u create any inflation, the money u create for ur self indirectly is like if u were taxing the value of the savings and wages from everyone else in the Country for yourself :selena:

Maleficent speaks his/her mind. Gotta respect that

I still don't have a solid opinion on whether the severity of response is worth the damage it does to so many ppls lives

I'm still on the fence about it tbh
