Can we appreciate this iconic transition?

Y'all need a pop music history lesson.

Nah, you just don't like Dua Lipa and that's fine. Just don't make excuses for it. Her new album is being widely praised, it's huge success and her looks are modern and, yes, iconic right now. Who knows what the future holds. Maybe she'll ultimately flop, but no one is immune to that - not even Madonna who is legitimately flopping so hard nowadays it's not even funny.

You know that's not true.

That's what I see on those photos. BUT when I actually do my research and watch her videos from those two eras I see how she changed and I see that in Dua too.

I obviously see the difference. Just not artistic transformation. It reflects on the lyrics of her new album too. There's no story to tie it together. Not even a real story on any of the songs. It's all quite empty to me. Which is why I'm not buying that this era is somehow a cohesive artistic statement. It's a stylistic exercise. Which is cool and fun. But not iconic.

But it's not supposed to be artistic statement and it's not supposed to have this deep message and that in itself is actually an artistic statement. She said many times that she had the direction in mind and that direction is to make people happy and to release amazing disco nostalgia songs with great visuals. That's it. She is not trying to send this amazing artistic message into the world. She is just enjoying herself. No one here claims she had this huge artistic rebirth BUT what I'm saying is that she is in charge now, you can tell this is what she wanted to do, you can tell she had this direction for the album and you can tell that every single choice for this album is hers. She is su much more invested and so much more passionate for this album than her last one.

I can't even understand the Blond Ambition-Ray of Light comparison, they're six years and three eras apart. If you wanna compare Dua to Madonna, compare their transitions from first to second eras. Madonna's transition from Like a Virgin to True Blue is nothing next to this.
