Ava Max: Lady Gaga comparisons turned nasty

Who is Ava Max? If you don't know her name, you've heard her inescapable electro-pop smash "Sweet But Psycho," a time machine back to summer '08 bubblegum Eurodance a la Cascada. It's the one with that chorus: "Oh, she's sweet but a psycho/ A little bit psycho/ At night she's screamin' 'I'm-ma-ma-ma out my mind.'" You've heard it, I promise.

The woman behind those "ma-ma-ma"s is a 26-year-old Albanian-American pop singer currently handcrafting her own Top 40-ready cult of personality, replete with a signature haircut, red carpet stunts and a deliberately nostalgic sound designed with super-producer Cirkut. "I feel like pop music is a way of going back to like your childhood," she tells PAPER. You can hear the imprint of all the pop queens Max was raised on in her music, most notably Lady Gaga, who she doesn't discuss anymore after comparisons turned nasty. There's a little Britney, a little Katy, some Ari and a pinch of Sia as a treat.

she’s nothing like gaga anyway so the comparison isn’t warranted or deserved

And then she goes on and works with RedOne.. Maybe she doesn’t see it (I think she’s well aware and likes the attention) but her label is clearly trying to make 2020 version of Gaga. They are riding with comparisons.

Be yourself.

Nobody had it harden than Gaga with Madonna yet you never saw her winning up on a magazine to promote a single. Ava, girl. What you were expectating? You beneffited from at some point but if you want to spread your wings and fly on your own the least thing you should be doing is talking about "comparisons". Knowledge Gaga, you keep giving Britney and Mariah credit for your sound and all time inspitation when its obvious that you got some notes from our queen.

You guys are doing the most like when Madonna stans lashed at Gaga for crediting other pop girl predecessors

It is understood. She will do like Ariana who avoided talking about Mariah once comparisons got overblown and even reached Mariah.

Maybe after she feels she established herself a bit more than she will feel comfortable bringing Gaga back into her list of inspirations etc..

This article is about how she likes to make music that sounds like what singers like Gaga made in the late 2000s, but she doesn't want to be compared to Gaga?

I get the Nasty comments part, people take things way to far but It's pretty obvious her Label where pushing her to be "The new Gaga". They seen the comparisons people were making and ran with it, This is no fault of Ava's it's something labels do all the time.

They have the blueprint of a superstar's success so they try to emulate it with other artists to try and get the same or similar results.
