Nobody asked, but I always rate albums within the contents of that album (and sometimes in comparison to an artists prior project). An album with more tracks is more risky to remain solid all the way through, but I tend to favor them a lot more. An album with too little tracks makes it feel incomplete.

If I like every song on an album, I rate it as high as I can. If I dislike a song or two on an album with 17 tracks it ends up taking a lot less impact than an album with 10 tracks. Know what I mean? 

I just assume that's how other people rate albums when listening to them as well.

The album has a little bit of dance and funk influences on there, but they don't go all the way. I would have loved if Dua really went for it like gimme something like ABBA meets Robyn, but we got a more scaled back version... I was 100% expecting more especially with the hype around her

This, 100% this! I really cannot see any 'perfection' in this album. Okay, fine the singles were very strong but the rest is just lackluster, boppy pop songs but I wouldn't go as far as to calling it a ''sound that Gaga has been chasing for years'' lmao.

Future Nostalgia suddenly sounds better than I remember and I think it's a nice introduction to what the album will sound like. Don't Start Now sounds amazing after it.

Cool issa cute album track and does fulfil to purpose to be a nice bridge between the two icons Don't Start Now and Physical.

This is what’s interesting to me. In terms of its retro style, Future Nostalgia is fairly on the nose, takes no risks, and didn’t surprise me very much.

Don’t game wrong, it is a thoroughly enjoyable album and it’s well-done. But the level of praise is surprising. I can’t help but think that Gaga releasing this exact album would be looked at as a step backwards.

It’s different standards. Gaga is on a whole other level at this point, she has 12 years of career, she’s won 11 Grammys, a Golden Globe, an Oscar, wrote the most awarded song in history. But if she had made this album at the beginning of her career she would’ve definitely received a lot of praise.

Also, critics were very harsh towards Gaga back in 2008-2013. She’s only recently become a critics darling, at least from what I remember.

imo the whole metacritic system is flawed, as albums are reviewed for a very short period of time after their release and most usually they don't take into account the context they're released in or how they age.

future nostalgia is just the album we needed right now, it's almost prefectly crafted, has no fillers and at the same time, it won't bring pop forward because it's mostly based on retro sounds and aesthetics.

in a sense, it's just an hyperhyped, well budget e*mo*tion.

 

again, i love it, and i believe it does deserve good reviews but it's not the album that will set the trend for the next few years like gaga has done in the past.

I'm at Cool, it's cute but I'm waiting for Hallucinate, that one and Love Again based on the opinions to blow my mind

Physical will be hard to beat tho
