It's because vaccinations are dramatically important to public health, not just an individual's health. All the people who are most at risk of dying covid19 likely wouldn't be able to tolerate a vaccine for it. They'd rely on everyone else not getting it and, therefore, not transmitting it to them. If some people don't get that vaccine, they pass on the protection, then they allow themselves to be vessels for the virus to infect those that don't deserve to die just because someone is ignorant about what a vaccine is. The specific type of way people react to statements like this shows it coming from a place of insecurity or something. Because in most other circumstances, when somebody says something you disagree with, like when religious people proclaim their belief in a god for example, people argue with that statement instead of blocking it out. When a celebrity talks about Jesus, the typical response isn’t “OMFG she believes in Jesus?! Cancelled!”. Most people would still see that celebrity as human. Maybe a flawed or unlikeable person, but they don’t get shut down. People either argue their point or move on. We usually don’t unstan people for all their varying faiths and beliefs. But this topic in particular gets an entirely different response. I don’t get it. And there’s a disconnect in the way both sides interact with each other and it’s not helping either of them. If you want someone to see your side of things, acting like a deranged hive-minded mean group of people is not how you achieve that. We can’t as a society have topics or opinions that are off limits. Because limiting what we talk about DOESN'T limit what we believe. You cannot make the world a better place without open discussion. This is completely different. Normally, I believe that people should live their lives as they please, but antivaxers are a danger to society. They’re worse than people who refuse to social distance in this pandemic. They don’t just put themselves at a stupid risk, they do so to everyone else too. I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill. Everyone else being vaccinated protects them. The measles outbreak literally only happened because of antivaxxers. When you choose to live in a society you choose to give up certain individual liberties, that’s the social contract. The same way you abide by laws, you abide by this rule and/or custom because it is in the better interest of the entire society. I can’t with everyone being selfish and the sentiment of anti-science. No, we shouldn’t trust feelings or unsubstantiated opinions over the proven facts from qualified professionals. The second you politicize science you’re going downhill as a society. Facts should not be swayed by opinion. You do realize these 'qualified professionals' you're talking about can be manipulated / sponsored etc by the government/ people with money right ? There's no way to seperate politics and science in real life it goes hand in hand inevitably. Imo if she wants to not vaccinate our reaction should not be to witch hunt her for her decision but respect it. And let me just say im from a country where 80% or more doesn't vaccinate their kids (and yes, we also happen to not trust government/ authorities very much), and there are NO outbreaks/disseases/etc that occurs bc of that, so i kinda get her point. It's just not worth it.
