Justin's music videos flopping - what does this tell us?

I’d say the longer an artist has been in the industry, the harder they have to bring it. Once you stop being the it boy or it girl you need to step it up 10x to remain relevant. That’s why Madonna was able to repeak even 20 years after she debuted, bc she kept on reinventing herself. That’s why Gaga was able to repeak with ASIB 10 years after her debut, bc she proved her versatility with C2C, Joanne, and the movie.
And this is why Justin is flopping. He’s been around for as much as Gaga, and has done nothing new, he’s actually bringing less than before. He really thinks he’s the same young artist the girls died for, but that’s not the case anymore. He needs to step his ass up if he wants to succeed. You could say the same for Katy as well.

Still coming with the thought provoking posts!!

I think that the longer people are around the harder they have to work. I think it shows Justin maybe didn’t work that hard IMO. Although he’s had plenty of time to debut the project it feels lackluster. Songs sound way too similar. Now, this would be considered his first flop from a string of smashes. He’ll be alright

The music definetly dissappointed a lot of people, he lost all the support he earned during Purpose.

The fans that grew up with him grew up too and have less time to give him big numbers, or left him because this music has absolutely no resemblance to any of the music that made him famous, from Baby to Boyfriend to Sorry.

He ended the Purpose era badly, canceled a bunch of dates, went to a very long hiatus where the only news we got from him is that he suddenly got married (which, even if it absolutely shouldnt, affects his overall image)

And also, lets face it, he lost all his sex appeal, which gave him a gigantic boost before, he was the eye-candy male celebrity, his nudes broke the internet, and he took advantage of it every time he could, there wasnt a single appearance where he didnt at least lift his shirt up to show his abs. He doesnt have that anymore, his original CK photoshoot was everywhere, now his latest one, went unnoticed...

The demise of Justin is something I never knew I would appreciate this much.

This isn't on topic, but I genuinely can't stand the string of white, male artists who put so little effort into their careers but have somehow gotten so much out of their fans and the public. Justin is the conductor of this mediocre train.

I have always had doubts on his longevity, and I'm happy to see the beginning of the end. I'm not just a pointless hater, because I am critical that the dude has shown such disrespect to soooooooo many people over the years whether they were his neighbors or other high-profile celebrities. And him being tied to the Devil, Scooter Braun, doesn't save him.

RIP Justin Bieber. He can't even sale half of the tickets to his arena in Houston, which has already been downsized from the local stadium.

Yeah, I thought he was getting better, especially now that he's married. But the advertisements for Yummy (with the babies) told me to shut the **** up and go back to Gaga (no, I never left her but you get it.) :saladga:

His album is bad so....:poot:

He's doing better on other platforms but his best tracks aren't even hitting half what he had with Purpose

Billionaires are a cancer. Even the ones you like.

I'd imagine most of those subs came around because of his previous work which is better AND has the nostalgia element to it

He gains hundreds of thousands of subs all the time, he's never had less than 100k subscribers a week for years. I've been documenting this stuff since 2016 and I run a thread where I deal with subscriber counts. He's gained well over a million this era alone. He continuous gains subscribers, never once falling, even when he wasn't releasing anything. That makes me smell a rat. Katy's the same. It doesn't make sense that the less successful she gets, the more subscribers she gets.

I'd say it's two things: most of his subscribers are probably bots, and his real fans are probably listening to his music on Spotify. (I dont know what his Spotify streams are).

If they're all listening on Spotify, why aren't his chart positions better, then?

I feel like the success of the Sorry video was a one and done.

Realistically, the songs themselves have to be good, on top of actually providing something new and novel to the eye from a video standpoint.

With big artists, there ends up being hundreds of fan made dance videos for songs, so posting videos of people dancing to a song doesn't really draw people in to view it.

Very good point. The Sorry dance video was most likely a complete one off. As I understand it, he did have a proper video with him in it in the works but the dance video got so much success that he dropped the idea as he didn't want views and likes shared over 2 videos, it would look far more impressive if it was all focused on one. And the overall visual album was such a hit, he thought he'd pull a Beyonce and do it every time from here on out. It meant he could just lay back and chill, pawning off the music videos to other people to make. He must be shocked to see that his fans aren't buying into this idea twice. And yeah, videos of random people dancing to songs...if you want that, got to TikTok. A whole app meant just for that. In today's world, there's no use for a dance video. And it doesn't help that the choreography is just standard hip hop moves, nothing special or connected to the song and no storyline. Seriously, what's the point? Just to count towards more streams, thus, more money?

He currently has 62M monthly listeners on Spotify, Yummy is at 300M+, Intentions coming for 200M, Forever at 60M and other tracks at 20M.

Sure everyone thought - including me before yummy - that he would perform way better, but oh well :poot:

If his streams are so good, why is he failing on the charts? And Forever is his new current single and has been for a while - check out Wikipedia.

True, he takes down his desirability massively as he's now off the market. I'm sure some girls lacking in morals will still try their luck but it will put the majority off. There's a reason why, for years, boybands were encouraged to never make romantic relationships public. As far as your fans are concerned, you're a free agent and therefore, they'll keep buying into your hype. Making albums about your wife when you're still young and hot is not it. It's like in The Simpsons when Homer gets famous and his agent tells him not to tell the press that he's married because "all these women will be wanting to have sex with you and we want to make them feel like they can."

With you on that one. He does indeed represent a trend that I hate in music - lazy men letting the mere fact they're men carry them through their entire career (and it's not just young, privileged, white boys who are guilty of this either, it runs the entire gamut of manhood). Classic female fan loyalty purely on the basis of hotness is something that I truly don't understand about my gender. Thing is, his entire tour could be shut down due to coronavirus anyway. And you can bet your bottom dollar that will be the only reason for cancellation that we'll be informed of. Trust him to have the world's greatest excuse to cancel without getting criticism. If it had occurred at any other time, he wouldn't have a leg to stand on. It also saves him from flopping even worse on international dates. Which still haven't been announced.
