RAMROD 109,574
Nah. Rich people are human too, they can feel boredom. Actually they are more sensitive to it. These people always have their schedule full most days, and suddenly this virus put a stop to that. It will take rough adjustment for them to feel ok about this. StrawberryBlond 14,862
I think the world in general is starting to tire of celebrities and aren't as impressed by them as they once were. It was starting long before now. What truly caused it was the MeToo phenomenon. Suddenly, we were aware that so many famous people, who we thought were good people, turned out to be monsters behind closed doors. It got to the point of, who do you trust? And there was also an, albeit more conservative pushback that said the female accusers should've spoken up sooner to prevent more people being hurt but kept quiet to protect their careers, consensually agreed to get roles and/or were all too happy to share in the joke of an open secret but suddenly hopped on a bandwagon to slam the same person when it became convenient. Not saying I agree with the latter parts, I'm just explaining different viewpoints. That's why viewing figures for award shows and in particular, acting awards shows, have gone right down. And why there's lots of criticism every time a celebrity gets political in an acceptance speech. We've opened up our eyes to the fact that a lot of actors are not qualified in anything, some of them didn't even complete high school, some were born into fame and have been coddled all their lives. Doesn't make them stupid or to say their opinions are invalid but they're not any more qualified than the average person. They're not experts in the field in which they're preaching, therefore, who are they to preach to the average Joe? Not to mention, so many are hypocrites, especially when it comes to things like carbon footprint, telling us to go more green when they use private jets constantly, get driven around in SUVs and are always buying new clothes, gadgets, cars and houses, with no concept of recycling and re-using. Why should we listen to their advice when they won't take it themselves? Now the coronavirus isolating only further shows up a lot of celebrities for how privileged they are, believing that everyone is able to stay inside and presenting their own wisdom, as if they know more than the experts. And you have to remember that a lot of celebrities are narcissists and narcissists need attention like a fish needs water. It's driving some of them crazy being isolated, not able to perform or be seen, meaning they don't have people fawning over them 24/7 like they're accustomed to. And you can bet that people will be a lot more shrewd with their money for a long time from here on out, maybe not frittering it away on cinema tickets, single/album downloads and concert tickets without a second thought in the future, as they have a lot less money to burn. So, yeah, this is a new dawn for celebrities. One in which they won't like as much. One in which their kissing up to each other, attention seeking and preaching won't be as welcome anymore. Franch Toast 26,869
I find this experience to be very equalizing. Don't get me wrong, it also exposes stark class differences (some people are bored in quarantine, others are terrified they won't be able to pay their bills or of losing their jobs, still others have to risk their lives and go out to work), but what I mean is, even super rich, famous people are susceptible to catching the virus, and we share a common fear right now, and most of us are all self-isolating. Their fame and money might get them tests before the rests of us, but if the hospitals are full, it won't necessarily get them a bed, and in the end, their bodies are just as vulnerable as ours are. Also, this experience is really highlighting that while art and entertainment are important, right now, what's critical to our society are medical workers and then a lot of working-class jobs, especially people working in grocery stores. I've enjoyed watching some of the videos made by Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert, and I love Lin-Manuel Miranda's posts, especially the face-off he's doing with Andrew Lloyd Webber. In general, however, I am very disillusioned with the idea of placing celebrities up on a pedestal, even Gaga. She/Her/Hers
