Everything seems to have calmed down. I was just barely in bed too, and now I'm too scared to sleep again.

This is so wild to me because a few years ago where I live there was a 5.8 quake and the damage was nowhere near this bad and we all just kinda went with it and everyone is freaking out about this. I think the stress from COVID-19 has something to do with it, but we don't really get earthquakes here, either. So who knows.

I think we are okay now. Its been calm for a little bit. That was our biggest earthquake since 92

Great to hear that! Aftershocks are normal and actually good because they help to release ground forces in little quantities. The more aftershocks, the less chances of a bigger strike.

I know what it feels. I've experienced a 8.8 MW once. Aftershocks were all day long, like 30 a day, for months.

Love.

The damage isn't really that bad, I don't think. But I definitely think COVID-19 has to do with the stress. and also because we haven't had an earthquake like this since 1992

I can't even imagine what that'd be like. Every time and aftershock hits everyone in my house starts crying and shaking. And thanks for the info, that good to know they are actually a good thing.

I also live in Utah. I live outside of Salt Lake, so I didn't feel it as strong. I still feel like I'm on edge, though, because our state lives along the Wasatch front, which is supposed to have a devastating earthquake sometime in the future. Thanks for the well wishes!

Its always lowkey amusing to see everyone react to an earthquake to me. I live between two tectonic plates so 5.7 is childs play for me. We get one every month but people from other countries always get super confused

This.

I won't give you details because you need to be calm.

This kind of experiences put you in a extreme situation, so now you (ALL) need to learn how to be prepared for an emergency.

-First: Learn how to be calm again. Control your thoughts, avoid negativity  and try to not overeact. If it takes you too much to be calm, you might need to learn relaxation techniques, like meditation or breathing control. This is very important, so then you are going to be able to help others. If they see you calm and in control of the situation you will help a lot. Don't run, don't cry. Just calm others.

-Learn everything about the place you live. If you live in a higher place, open the door so it won't get stucked when the building bends. If you live in house you might like to keep the door closed because the frame could lost its shape and you won't be able to close it again, you can escape through a window or something. Learn where you can cut the suministration of gas because  earthquakes might damage pipelines and make an explotion. Also analize where you can find TRIANGLE OF LIFE SPOTS. Places you can avoid being smashed if the ceiling or walls fall down.

-Please  be aware of what falls from above. A lot of people get injured when they run outside because of falling elements like concrete, trees and glasses.

This.

Please don't act like this.

People who never have experienced an earthquake or are not used to them freaks the same. No matter if it's "A baby one" as you say, or a big one.

Earthquakes are not the same in every place. In my country we have more solid foundations, other kinds of locations are more unstable. Also we have very high construction standars so we are prepared to resist. Other countries are not used to experience this kind of phenomena so their buildings are more likely to colapse with a "Baby earthquake"

It doesn't matter dude.

Catastrophe makes no distinction between Utah and Shitisztán, where you live.

Get you s* together.
