Their statement is in regards to the coronovirus. And considering the rate of smoking their is quite high (31% of adults) - higher than in Italy and South Korea — the coronavirus is going to WRECK them .. no quality of healthcare system will be able to save people from their crappy healthy choices. The United states only has about a 10-13% of smokers. They can to talk about their AAAMMZZING healthcare all they want but it’s not going to do much when their citizens don’t take great care of their bodies

Okay sweetie, americans do a fine job of taking care of their bodies for sure with their 36% obesity rate in adults on a population that high. :laughga:

Funny how everybody have a very strong opinion about US health services. Ks it that bad?

I’m literally poor but it works for me. My health insurance each month is small. Less than 1/20th what I make in a month. All the medications I’ve ever needed have either been completely covered or have a small less than $10 copay. I’ve been able to see every type of doctor, from psychiatrist to sleep doctors, who accepted my insurance. That’s just my experience as a poor person in the US.

... I don’t think you see the reason I’m bringing up smoking rates ... because the disease affects the lungs. Obesity obviously compromises your health but noting comprises your health like the impact of habitual smoking does on your lungs and your immune system. I expect high infection rates in the USA just because of our sheer numbers but the severity and mortality to be low in proportion to other global pockets where lung health is severely compromised. Laugh all you want but those habits not only put yourselves at risk but also those around you

(also a different of a 26 vs 32 % obesity rate isn’t much of a difference ... )

Damn, now their health system will have to apply cold water to the burns of an entire population

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

States like Alabama or Louisiana (aka, poorer states) have a smoking rate of 20%. Same states have an obesity rate +30%. And same states are the ones with less access to healthcare. +50% of US adults have health problems (mostly hypertension and obesity).

So, the average Norwegian is probably healthier than the average American

With all my due respect, Did you seriously just compared the healthcare quality to people’s lifestyle? It’s responsibility of the STATE to provide high quality healthcare to its citizens, and it’s responsibility of individuals to smoke or not to smoke. The university urged its students to return Norway for their own protection, relying on their high quality health service, unlike US where they might not be able to get the help they need. So..smoking is the most random and unrelated argument you could ever make related to this post. :saladga:

It’s also your responsibility to make sure you do everything in your power to maintain health - no amount of healthcare is going to mediate that. So you can have as much access to fantastic healthcare as you want but if a large portion of your population already has lung issues then no amount of medical care is going to prevent infection or grow a surplus of hospital beds. Norway wants to be shady but they’re not realizing they’ve set up their population to POTENTIALLY feel the severe side effects of the virus
