To sum it up X factor gave Natalia the role of being the mean Simon Cowell esque judge but it backfired 

Honestly I could believe that her being mean was an act but she definitely chose a bad moment and a bad reason to go off on that poor guy. I use to listen to her heavily now she is just a memory of my highschool freshman days. She could have had better outcomes in her career if she had just been nice.

It wasn't exactly "staged", meaning that there wasn't a precise script that obliged her to do what she did.

But yes, the game was that she has to play the mean judge and being a b*tch every once in a while, for the sake of buzz around the show.

The problem is, she has never been very good in playing a character, even her pop-star persona, meant to be a sort darker version of Gaga, didn't quite work (I remember Popjustice dissing her and calling her phony and a fraud, even if they liked her music, even taking some her interviews as an example of how fake she sounded when she acted as a punk-ish emo rebel)

So, it backfired atrociously yes, because she didn't put any limit and that outburst was so over the top it was painful to watch (even her husband looked in clear discomfort imo, even if he tried not to)

Too bad she is so dumb (artistically speaking) and incapable to "play the game" as she was intended to, both her albums were very, very good (I have no idea if she did something else afterwards).

Lies. The album Trouble is excellent. She has loads of talent. She behaved badly on reality TV, which has made some people into stars. But does not deserve to have her talent erased because of a poor decision.

As someone else said, it was staged but she took it way too far. Even though she was a bitch, she didn't deserve all the death threats she received even after she apologized. 

Anyways, she still remains an incredibly talented and amazing artist. Trouble is one of my favorite albums
