I would agree that it can be very small minded to not think that everything has a cause and effect. And in times like this, entertainment can be very good for us. Just living in fear and stress does not help.

People do need to hope that this pandemic doesn't last too long though. Because if a recession hits, jobs will be lost. And then all the people who said they don't care, will care.

I'm not saying people need to cozy up to big companies and billionaires, but their success is also our success in some regards. Disney has a past of shutting down areas of the company which lead to large layoffs. Lots are at stake for sure.

Disney is alright, they are literally too big to fail.

And the park closure is not long, about 2.5 weeks, I believe? They can survive that.

Sure, you can see them as considerate and kind cos they look after their employees and the visitors safety.

But the main thing about all these closure and events/movies postponement is law suits. People will sue them if they caught the virus while being in the park or watching movie they are producing. Even if that is not the companies fault. As it already happen now with cruise ships getting sued by people who got corona while in their ships.  Because majority of people will blame anyone but themselves. Even better if they can try to make it into money while at it. And these companies lawyers clearly knew this risk and warned them accordingly. 

 

Besides, the image where someone contracted a disease in your place of business will not be good anyway. Hence the closure and postponement are the best for everyone.

 

Mulan's gross projection before news of postponement was 85 millions. So obviously Disney not gonna shelved that no matter what. There might be some of Disney movie being pulled to hive space for Mulan. Since Disney already booked slots on movie theaters for at least the next 10 years for all of their movies, the MCU fils, the Star Wars films, the Pixar's, and FoX as well, it is easy for them to reconsider which movies they wanna pick and choose.

All I need is for New Mutants to be release of their misery already. It's been delayed for so long since 2017, when Fox not even part of Disney entity yet. Most people who were hyped over this movie are slowly moving on now. Cos it is just tiring.

So far all construction on new projects has stopped, pushing out some opening dates by possibly a year. Some projects might be cancelled or at least postponed indefinitely. Disney World has been gearing up for a big 50th anniversary in 2021 but I’d imagine a lot of those projects might not make it.

As a big Disney fan this is so disappointing

As a big Disney fan this is so disappointing

Its really a sad time in Orlando. Never in my life did I think I'd be living in a time where WDW was closed "indefinitely." The resort's future was looking bright especially, as you said, for the 50th anniversary next year. But I would be very shocked if we get anything now.

I don't trust Chapek as far as I can throw him so from a park perspective it scares me a bit.  I'm a big WDW person and it made me nervous when he became CEO way before COVID-19.  Although ironically it seems he brought back his precious Disney vault but this time he put all the parks in it 😂

The company will be fine but I worry about him continuing to destroy the parks with this as an excuse to fuel it.

Iger was a monster capitalist but he was effective and he was so hot in a cardigan (yeah I said it.  Fight me)  Maybe bring him back.

We will get a painted castle and a painted Tomorrowland  oh and ratatouille! I think on the chopping block for never going to happen are the Mary poppies attraction at Epcot, spaceship earth reimagining (at least for a while), Drawn to Life by Cirque du Soleil.

Let’s hope he doesn’t tank them! Iger really did do a very good job with the company. He set them up very well but they might have no choice in cancelling a lot of projects. I’m honestly not into money at all so I can’t speak on if they have enough money or not but it would be sad to see the parks take a huge downturn

Drawn to Life is still going to premiere. I had tickets to the opening night last week and got an email saying the show will open later in 2020.

 It’s a company, not a person. Disney employees millions of lower and middle class individuals and many attribute it to change their lives (Disney is a HUGE resume plus!).

 

You can just demonize it because it’s a multi billion dollar corporation. It also is people’s livelihood.
