If I had to fly right now, I'd so be doing this, though I don't have access to a hazmat suit...

Also, I totally do the same wipe-down method when I fly, though it never occurred to me to bring my own seat covers. Something to plan for the future!

True story: I once caught pink eye from an airplane, presumably the blanket or pillow. It was a long-haul flight from Asia to the US. Another time, I developed an extremely bad ear infection – so bad that I ended up in the ER and had to get a shot in my ear – that the doctor believes I caught from using earphones provided on a flight from Hong Kong to the US.

I always brought my own headphones, blanket and pillows.

And never ordered hot beverage inflight. I’d wait til my next stop for a cuppa in a proper coffee shop, even if just Starbucks.

Yes, I always bring my own stuff now. The earbuds situation was a long time ago.

However, it was after a flight between Seoul and Detroit about two years ago that I developed pink eye. I had used miles to upgrade to business class, so I had one of those glorious flatbed seats, and I used their blanket and pillows because they were nicer than what I had (they provided the Westin heavenly bedding adapted for Delta). I'm not sure that they're well-cleaned between flights. I guess it's a good thing I normally fly in economy, so no temptation.
