CoolTrainerTerry 1,446
My "Current Singles" playlist hasn't been this large in such a long time. In case anyone was wondering about the order, the day a song begins impacting, I drag it into the playlist. Naturally, the longer a song lingers around the charts, the higher it rises on the playlist. Most of those will probably flop but I don't care. (Actually I do ) I see Bridgit Mendler in there. I approve.
Jase 13,385
^ Is she making a video for PIU? It's the third official UK single, so I'd imagine so

Tommymonster44 0
Still...it's annoying & cheap! It just makes me mad, how can you be that thirsty for a #1? Let the music chart on its own, if you're that talented/innovative, you don't need to cheat. I understand what your saying, but it annoys me how everyone uses Katy as a scapegoat for the issue. Pop artists have been using the remix tactic for decades. It's a little unfair to single out Katy when the majority of pop stars over the past 20-30 years have been doing the same. chris777 112
Katy is singled out because she broke MJ's record using the remix/discount tactic. Totally undeserving of it. I think her 5 singles were good enough to make #1 on Hot 100. The remixes don't do very much as people think. Only for TOTGA you can totally notice the desperation for make it #1, but it didn't happen anyways
Tommymonster44 0
Katy is singled out because she broke MJ's record using the remix/discount tactic. Totally undeserving of it. She didn't break Michael Jackson's record, she tied it. The remixes also didn't help as much as people made them out to be. The first three singles didn't feature a remix. E.T. was such a huge hit it really didn't need one. The only #1 song where the remix was really utilized was Last Friday Night. The label wanted to shift a few extra thousand copies of the song to make sure it peaked at #1 instead of #2. So what? Also, there was a pretty big chance it would have gone #1 anyways. People make the remixes seem like a giant career defining decision. In reality, the few extra thousand copies sold from them only garnered few extra points on Billboard. I somewhat think E.T. would have made it to the top without the remix, but Last Friday Night and The One That Got Away definitely wouldn't have charted as high, and they're sales numbers wouldn't have been inflated either. I actually don't think The One That Got Away helped out the song that much. After all, it didn't end up peaking at #1 anyways. The remix was extremely poor and random. I'm not exactly a fan of the Last Friday Night remix, but compared to TOTGT..it looks like pure gold. I believe it's remix didn't even make the top 30 on iTunes and fell off after a day or two. Correct me if I'm wrong. The only remix I actually enjoyed from the era was the Kanye West remix. His feature in the music video and the quality of the remix in general made it worthwhile to listen to. The other two seemed very sloppy and thrown together without any real reason other than to sell.
nick4bty 2,758
TOTGA had a remix? I thought it only had the acoustic version that was re-released (which I loved, btw).
Tommymonster44 0
TOTGA had a remix? I thought it only had the acoustic version that was re-released (which I loved, btw). Oh no haha. It had an embarrassingly bad remix with B.O.B. It sounded like Capitol just took some unused vocals B.O.B had recorded for his album and randomly put them in the remix. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=6yDA0K3tFvc

The single version with Kanye was released to iTunes on February 16th. The remixed version was the first method of exposure of the song to the general public. Obviously it wasn't a hit before the remix. I doubt Katy would have even gotten that far on Rhythmic without Kanye, translating to a non #1 single. I'm sure that the song got a significant boost from Kanye, but it turned out to be such a major hit, I'm sure that pop radio would have given it more than enough steam to snatch the number one spot for at least one week. Also remember that not many people buy Katy Perry's albums, so there is a larger pool of people who are interested in buying her singles. I find it difficult to grasp how Katy can be discredited as the third largest selling digital artist in history just because a tiny amount of those sales were due to a remix. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Last Friday Night's remix pushed the song to #1 on Digital Songs, which in turn pushed the song to #1 on the Hot 100. As for The One That Got Away, I'm almost certain that the song peaked at #4 before the remix came out, and then reached it's actual peak of #3 afterwards. Again, I could be wrong about this. I tried to navigate Billboard.com to find out for sure, but I'm honestly having some trouble using their new site. :(

I was just pointing out that members act like the remix was the end of the world or something. In reality, it helped give it that last little push to number the top spot, but it was still entirely successful without the remix. I actually have no idea if the remix was responsible for for pushing the song into the top 3. It didn't do too well, but it may have given it enough of a boost to gain a chart position. You can tell me if you find any information about it :).
