Deacon 5
That said: so fukcing happy for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' unexpected success. I'm positively giddy for them. Same here. I've been a fan since I heard "Same Love" last summer and it had me in tears. I knew "Thrift Shop" would be a hit, but I wasn't expecting it to be as big as it is. The Heist is such a good album and deserves its success.
Necca 166
Justin doesn't deserve success with that garbage track. This.

kupo 201
There is nothing atrocious about Thrift Shop. Ryan Lewis's production is creative, confident, and textured, and Macklemore has got a great flow and a winning sense of humor. Not to mention it's rather brilliant in the way it subverts hip hop's obsession with material objects as a form of legitimation (constantly talking about their commercial success, the size of their wallet, bank, etc.). It's a meaningful novelty song, which is a pretty stellar achievement. The Heist in general is rather astonishing in the way it moves between bizarro novelty humor raps and songs that are not just socially conscious, but that essentially assault listeners with their upfrontness (see: Same Love). Mills 446
Because music is subjective and everyone has different tastes? Exactly. Anyway, I'm vey pleased with the success of S&T as it would finally give Justin Timberlake his best first-week sales in his entire career. It's also on track to become the seventh song in the past year to reach the 300K mark. He surely was missed. And hopefully, greater things would be ahead of him in this new album of his.
