Ozzy8923 9
Gaga will be fine. Britney peaked with her first album and single in terms of sales and she did fine with the rest of her career without extensive radio support or the entire GP loving her (America's Sweetheart is far from true. ). Britney, just like Gaga does now, had (or has) a huge fan base that was always supporting her and guaranteeing her steady album sales.

Who knew Britney could get her second HOT 100 #1 after almost a decade? Thanks to her loyal fanbase.

Oyemiamor 40
So Locked Out of Heaven is #1, huh? EDIT: I made this awkward post because there was an awkward post above me that is now deleted So Bruno can so obviously copy Sting and the Police but Gaga gets crucified for BTW. Double standard much? Or just ignorance in music from the rest? Kudos to Bruno to know to copy an artist older people would like to rehear but wouldn't b---h like Madonna fans. Echo 327
Taylord needs to come for that #1. And I hope BAAB comes for that #1 too. :hor:
craig 680
Exactly. Not just this, but Gaga can do better than Rih tour wise and chart wise during the ARTPOP era, and Rihanna will still be more popular/accepted among the general public. Who is this "general public" - it's not people over 25 or rock fans or hipsters. I think Gaga does better with them. Haven't seen a great rush to buy Rihanna singles post-album release within the last year. I also think Rihanna is behind Taylor, Gaga, and Katy as an icon for white teen girls in America. Rihanna though crosses over better with hip-hop fans. She's worked with almost all the big rappers. Rihanna has a lot of hits and single sales from successful collabs, including her biggest in the US with Eminem..

comrade 33
Who is this "general public" - it's not people over 25 or rock fans or hipsters. I think Gaga does better with them. Haven't seen a great rush to buy Rihanna singles post-album release within the last year. I disagree. Of course there is no way to totally prove it, but I'd say Rihanna is more "acceptable" than Gaga in all of those groups you mentioned. I'm not surprised if I find a Rihanna track or two on some "hipster" playlists (especially Diamonds has been all over the place lately). Gaga's tracks on the other hands are much harder to find. craig 680
I know some Coldplay fans thought they sold out with the Rihanna duet. Gaga has biologists naming fungus after her. No doubt thoughtful feminist types think she's a better role model for girls and a more interesting figure than Rihanna (the classic manufactured popstar using s-x and running back to Chris Brown). There are more than a few posters here with hipster tastes and attitudes. Gaga plays better with liberal adults than homophobes and religious wingnuts. But those conservatives would pick Taylor Swift as their choice over Gaga, not Rihanna the hip-hop bad girl.
comrade 33
Thoughtful feminists or biologists are far from the large general public masses though. It'd be damn hard to find Gaga's hits on "hipster" playlists or hear them at such parties and events. Gaga's material tends to be way too over-´produced and ultra-pop for them. Whereas Rihanna's songs usually blend in a lot more easily.
craig 680
Hipsters and rockers hate pop stars for being manufactured (not writing their songs) and sometimes for not being able to sing or put on a show. Gaga beats Riri in both areas. Is't Gaga typically a leader in unwanted views on Last FM, so she interests a lot of hipsters who don't want to admit to listening to pop. Google "Coldplay sell out Rihanna" https://www.google.c...iw=1347&bih=515 Thoughtful feminists or biologists are far from the large general public masses though. There are plenty of intelligent adults with several years of college who may appreciate Gaga, who aren't necessarily hipsters in the music snob sense. More interested in ideas and cultural impact, and not ashamed to enjoy a good dance tune. Intellectuals were often nerds and outsiders in high school and get Gaga's message.
