I'm proud of the way that my radio station is handling the Die Young situation. They have had requests to remove it, but have also had requests to continue playing it. It's actually peaking right now on our radio station and the DJ's are refusing to pull it from the station. However, they are doing it in a very kind and understanding manner.

After they play the song, they usually talk about recent Ke$ha news and somehow integrate the quote where she voices her concerns over the song and her empathy for the victims of the shooting. The station stresses that the song is being played as a symbol of hope to live today..in the moment, instead of as a death sentence.

This is one of the few times that I'm proud to live in Nebraska. People here seem to be very level-headed and logical about the whole situation. We are looking for ways to increase safety and pay tribute, but nobody seems to be going wacko like people are going in a lot of other places around the country. Almost everyone here seems to be taking the intelligent and more long-term approach to this tragedy.

I prefer Taylor over Kesha.

Or maybe I just like that I dont really see Taylor as competition/in the same field as Gaga :fan:

I used to see Gaga-Katy-Rihanna as the Big 3 of current pop girls with Kesha as an iffy 4th.

Now I see a Big 4 with Taylor.

Taylor is breaking out her niche, with a #1 album in UK, 2 top tens singles in UK, and soon a 2nd Hot 100 #1. She's bigger than Kesha in Oz and UK both. Plus IKYWT is more catchy and dancy than Rihanna's recent singles.

Taylor will never be "huge" in most of the world.

France? Belgium? Germany? Asia in general?

She's more of a country/pop mix American girl. Regardless, her brand is nothing like Gaga. Keshas is

I still view Taylor below the 4 your listed, though. Even though she has been selling a lot of singles and albums, as well as added a little radio support, I still don't see her with a defined fan base. People buy her songs, but they don't care about her after that. She has zero influence on pop culture.

For instance, if you put Lady Gaga's face on the cover of your magazine, it will sell about twice as much as usual. If a magazine puts Swift's face on their cover, it will sell half of what it usually does. People that normally buy a magazine won't buy it simply because it has Taylor Swift's picture on the cover.

So she definitely has been selling a lot of material lately, but I wouldn't group her in the big 3 quite yet.

International popularity will always be Taylor's weakness relative to Gaga and Rihanna, but she's getting to big to dismiss as a merely local artist. Just like Rihanna and Katy are weaker in albums sales, but you can equate them with Flo-Rida and (now) Kesha in that department.

I do believe that once Taylor Swift fully embraced pop music, her worldwide following would gradually grow. With over 20 million albums sold, a handful of GRAMMYs under her belt at a young age of 23, and her ability to sell out stadiums for her upcoming tour, the future is certainly bright for her.

Shes never going to fully embrace pop music. She'll mix it, but that's it.

She still wants to be known as a country "legend" (which she'll never be as a sell-out)

But tour sales and repeated strong album sales show people care about the artist and not just the songs.

Swift is no a fashion icon, and not as popular with smarter, hipper, more liberal, more urban girls as Gaga. She is country-pop princess of the red states.

She still wants to be known as a country "legend" (which she'll never be as a sell-out)

Haters and purists accused Shania of that too, but it never had much impact.

Taylor is like a Shania-Britney cross, the first teen-country-pop princess

Am I the only one that sees her pulling a meltdown Britney? :fan:

That would be Rihanna. Anything to stop her from another messy release in November 2013. Id like to see what she can offer if she works on an album for more than just 9-10 months.
