The MTN was a moderate hit crap needs to stop. It's her biggest flop to date. Yes it had 1m more AI, and was played on TV more but that doesn't mean it was a bigger hit.

It can't even pass 49.5m views on Vevo :toofloppy:

It had 1 m less than Judas :)

Examples of songs that performed similarly to "Marry the Night". (I'd add more if I could think of others off the top of my head.) These achieved fair amounts of success in their own rights, but they aren't flops either, even if they weren't very big hits.

I'm not going to try editing that post again because the code gets ****ed up, but Nicki's "Va Va Voom" is another recent example.

Radar by Britney did horribly in the US, but everyone I know loves that song/knows it

Peaked at #88 but sold 600K+ (combining the versions from Circus and Blackout). Still shocked about that. It could of gone Top 20. Just like If U Seek Amy should of gone Top 10. :crossed:

I hope State of Grace is TayTay's 5th single off Red. It slays so hard :legend:

Same with "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" back in the early 00s. Everyone knew and used it in reference to Britney yet it didn't even break the Hot 100.

I find it ironic that people on this board complain about Rihanna following dance trends, but the second she releases something with more urban and ballet roots everyone labels it as boring. Stay isn't the next We Found Love. It's not a dance song that was created merely for entertainment. However, it is beautiful. It's obvious that Rihanna inserted herself emotionally this album, which is something I can't say for the others. She might not write her own music, but get over it. Some of the biggest musical legends in history didn't write their own music. Her skill set includes her unique voice and eccentric personality.

Exactly.

I don't think you NEED to be a song writer but it's always nice to have that personal touch. I mean, just because that artist didn't write it doesn't make it any less true but knowing that they took the time to write it is always nice.

I think it does make a big difference.

It's like an artist singing a personal song to him, but he didn't wrote it. How "personal" could it be?

Michael, Madonna and Mariah were and the last too still are actively involved in the conception, composition and production of their work. And I think that's also why people takes Gaga more seriously as an artist than others, because of her multiple abilities and the effort she puts on her work.

Michael was very involved with his work but he actually didn't write a lot of the songs on Thriller.

Madonna wasn't that involved with her first 2 albums either.

I suppose. I care more about the music itself as opposed to whether it was written by the artist or not. Because there are some songs out there that were written by the artists that would of been MUCH better if song writers had been used and then there are just those that are amazing with the personal lyrics written by the artist. It goes both ways really. Who wrote the song is secondary to the actual quality of the song itself. Just because Britney didn't write Piece of Me doesn't mean what the songs say is any less true and it doesn't make me like the song any less. :music:
