Arturo 40,746
Gangnam Style needs to die. I don't know anyone that bought/illegally downloaded that song for the enjoyment of listening to it on their ipods. Everyone that I know who did buy/illegally download it got it for a party or something.

People I know obsessed over the video, but I don't know anyone who actually bought it and listens to it because it's a good song.
Galactic Mess 1,393
Well, I completely support your opinion but there's a reason Britney's fan base is still supporting the "zombie": Deep down most of us know that she is restrained both legally and probably mentally and, of course, physically. She has a conservatorship (legal), a team watching over her every move making sure she doesn't do or say anything that will harm her (physical), and all that medication that does God knows what to her brain (mental). Yet, here she is, still making music, doing tours, and now, X-Factor. Do you think that Britney doesn’t have enough of a justifiable reason to just quit? To stop making music and care for her children and re-marry and live a simple life. After all, why not? She has enough money to survive for the rest of her life and who would want to continue a career as pop star considering all the **** she took? Knowing that she is still in the music industry willing to put herself out there at the disposal of the very people that almost got her KILLED is enough for me to support her any day. I’m not justifying Ms. Spear’s actions, her performing abilities, or her lack of input in her work but you have to look at it from a different perspective. I know she loves her fans (Read some of the letters she wrote back in 2007 to her fans on her website, I’ll message them to you if you ask for them) and I know she cares. She could easily, right now, be sitting at her home reading or cooking but instead she's still recording music videos, recording new music (She's been spotted in the studio three times in one week not too long ago), and ready to do it all again with Album 8. Britney isn't a living corpse, she was forced to become one. Not to mention, she still gives me music that I like (The only albums I cared about last year were her's and Gaga's). Sorry about the rant, I can go on, but this is Charts Discussion thread and we must remain on topic. I apologize. In other news... Look who creeped up to #2: 1 will.i.am - Scream & Shout (feat. Britney Spears) 1.0000 2 PSY - Gangnam Style (ê°â€¢Ã«â€š¨Ã¬Å ¤Ãƒ€ì¼) 0.6328 Wow, I didn't know about these things... She's really strong for willing to stay in the business, even if as a mere shadow of what she once was...

Anyways, I don't want anyone to perceive it as me defending Britney's current state. She is a mere shadow of what she once was but I'll always stick around. Americano 31,061
All Rihanna eras have been messy after Rated R. Loud was okay, but she generally flopped after S&M, and her album sales were womp. Only Girl and WMN were basically it. Rihanna is just up and down in general. Shes always around, but half of the time she's flopping. People just dont notice bc she releases something every week And I'm always on Britney's side. She's my childhood sweetheart, and a pop icon that was tormented by the media to no end. The fact she had a comeback doesn't need a "Born This Way" message or something (no shade.) She lived through people writing off her career and labeling her as simply crazy, but she continues to defy them. It's inspiring to see that even when you fall so far, if you work, you can make it back up.
nick4bty 2,758
Nicki Minaj is just up and down in general. Shes always around, but 75% of the time she's flopping. People just dont notice bc she releases something every week Fixed :hor:

kupo 201
That NBC article kind of asks the crucial question for me. Like, I sorta get where ozzy and others are coming from (hell, I want her to do well in the sense that I want her to be happy and healthy), but I still don't really understand supporting her artistic output if its recognizably bad. Like, it's true: her perseverance is evident simply by the fact that she's still performing at all after what she's been through, and I guess--in some sense--that's admirable. But in another, it's not. Like, what's wrong with NOT doing this if you're not cut out for it and don't want to anymore? (and she's certainly done very little to prove to me she *wants* to still be doing this) What's wrong with letting her retire and enjoy the career she's had without having to trudge on half-heartedly? If she's going to decide to stay in the game, then out of sheer respect for her, I'm not going to take it easy on her. I'm not going to overpraise her mediocrity (that's a disservice both to her as an artist [because praising mediocrity is really a form of condescension] and to us as fans [because it actually signals to labels and music-industry-suits that this kind of half-assed bull**** is not just acceptable, but hit-material]). If you're going to stay in the business, then commit and really put yourself out there. But don't have your handlers put out mass-produced, lifeless material and expect me to buy it because you once--in the past--helped shape the pop landscape. We should demand more of our artists. Even one's who've been through hell like Brit. It's better for her and us.
Americano 31,061
I like Scream & Shout, so I don't really have concern for the "artistic" output from Britney Spears. To be quite frank, I listen to Lady Gaga who essentially sold out musically to become famous. I mean, listen to her pre-fame music and then listen to her debut album. If I'm turning it onto stations like Z100 and KIIS FM, and picking out songs I like from the Hot 100, I'm contributing to the manufactured nature of the industry anyway. Contrary to a lot of her fans, I don't see Lady Gaga as different than any of the other stars that are currently part of the "machine."
Pop Art 1,773
I kind of have a feeling I'm going to get dragged for not knowing this, but what exactly did happen to Britney that was so bad? I have a faint idea, but I didn't really follow the pop landscape back then, so I really don't know any specifics.

Messy divorce, harassed by the paparazzi everywhere (literally, chasing her and breaking into her home etc), followed by mental breakdown, getting no control over her own finances, her label forcing her to put out material when she was going crazy and throwing her onto excruciating tour schedules, media exploiting her family issues to attack her, forced into a mental institution, etc etc. Basically a nightmare celebrity scenario. Hopefully nothing like that happens to Lady Gaga
