SomethingMore 1,701
I don't know what are u talking about! One More Night is an amazing song. It deserves to be at #1 for 7 weeks. Its getting a 8th week for sure, but after that PSY will overtake! It cant be at #1 forever (or can it? )
boysboysboys 278
Sometimes I think Gaga should just go release something from Born This Way, maybe give an excuse like it's a tour-ender tribute single (ala Cheers), and then focus on media to make it a hit. I hate to see such a great album, possibly one of the best albums of this decade, be discredited like this. I wonder why Troy even went ahead with the discount, that was such a dumb thing to do especially since the media was out to get her at that time. The Express Yourself bull**** could have also been handled more appropriately. I don't know what are u talking about! One More Night is an amazing song. It deserves to be at #1 for 7 weeks. Its getting a 8th week for sure, but after that PSY will overtake! It cant be at #1 forever (or can it? ) It likely will go on until the November album releases. chris777 112
Glee is doing Gangnam Style and the episode will aire at the end of november. If GS stills 1-2 on itunes until then it will hit No. 1 for sure on billboard after glee episode or maybe it will go no. 1 before that.
Magoo 6
Billboard is a nightmare right now. Full label service. Agree. The tight battles appear to be decided by a committee of suits in Billboard, and no doubt the labels have members on that committee. If it was by real numbers they would tell us exactly how the points are worked out. The fact they don't reveal all the information, only a limited amount, shows they are hiding something. Jake 0
As everyone here has pointed out, chart positions don't mean nearly as much as they used to. For better or worse GS will be remembered. People will have forgotten OMN by January.
Magoo 6
One of the mysteries of the Hot 100 is why the airplay tracking week ends on a different day of the week (Tues) than the sales tracking week (Sun). It means that a song might be positioned for #1 at the end of the earlier sales tracking week, and then have it taken away by (deliberate) airplay changes which are out of the music buying public's control in the last two days. So in effect the music industry has a final say over the public. A sort of Bad Romance.
Bad 32
Billboard is a nightmare right now. Full label service. 100% agree. The charts should show what consumers like, not what radio likes. There's way too much emphasis on airplay and that basically gives Clear Channel the most control over the Hot 100. I always thought they changed the formula to prevent things like Katy Perry discounts and remixes, but the chart currently favors artists like Katy and M5 who cater their songs to as many radio formats as possible. Ozzy8923 9
I agree. Artists like Lady Gaga and Britney Spears who don't have MASS crossover appeal and rely heavily on Pop Radio for most of their airplay will suffer on the charts due to the rule changes and airplay having more weight. It's quite unfortunate. 42 = CARLY RAE JEPSEN This Kiss 881 +14 207 -25 3.203 +0.157 19 230 42 881 234 3.203 Yay! Ozzy8923 9
*11,768,000. That is how many singles Gaga has sold in the United States with Born This Way. Source: I was just casually going through ATRL and I saw that so... Not meant to be offensive, but it IS related to sales. I don't see how 12 million single sales in the US in one year is bad. CoolTrainerTerry 1,307
:lmao: M5 spends a seventh week @ #1 Diamonds #5 Something fishy is going on over at Billboard.
Klou 2,414
Billboard is crap. GS really is getting blocked just like Bad Romance did. I feel like the only legit chart is the digital sales chart. Nothing else is a good representation of popularity.
Echo 326
And Gaga didn't need to partner with a company that sponsors homophobic political candidates to do it (Target). Taylor had a discount last time, but she probably had to ditch Amazon to make deals with other retailers. Useful link for albums on itunes: http://www.downloadcharts.net/ It may be the largest, it may be equal to the rest of the world combined. But Gaga tripling Taylor abroad would more than make up for being a bit behind in US album sales. Taylor is desperate to grow her sales abroad anyway, working with Max Martin and The A Team dude from UK. But im talking about this album. The 99cent deal was not partaken by her+ her label. Excuses, excuses. You said the Red ERA started with a bigger bang than BTW did. That's false because when does an album era start? When the first single is released. No. I said that RED sold more than BTW. And it's bigger than general. BTW was just in everyone's faces. On billboards, on benches, on cartons of milk. And RED was on a pizza box. Did Gagas take over iTunes with all over her albums when BTW debuted? Juggernaut alberm tbh. Just like btw.
Tommymonster44 0
The radio definitely has too much control over the Billboard chart and I honestly don't find it to be the true representation of a song's popularity with the public. Songs played on the radio aren't always what people listen to on their ipods. Honestly, the radio is built for background music. Who actually turns on their radio to listen to their favorite songs? That's actually one of the reasons I feel dance music isn't catching on in America. A lot of dance music is very aggressive and in your face, so radio stations just won't play it because they want to play good background/working music.
