I've always found this myself. Ideas of what is good and creative will differ, obviously, but I've always been drawn to female artists because to me, they seem to make more interesting music than men. Women are under so much pressure to do everything to a high level to be successful whereas men don't need to try as hard as everyone's so much more easily satisfied by their output, they believe it must be good because they're men. This is why male artists tend to stay in their comfort zone for their entire careers whereas women try to switch up their image and sound lest they be accused of always doing the same thing, something which you rarely, if ever, hear directed at men. Its always bugged me how the likes of Ed Sheeran, who doesn't make an effort with his appearance, doesn't have the best voice and writes the same formulaic songs over and over is praised by many men as being real just because he plays an acoustic guitar and no one ever accuses him of always staying the same. Whenever you watch reality tv singing shows, the males who couldn't sing that well but sang a heartfelt song on a guitar were always praised but if a female had an average voice, it was picked up on immediately. Women are encouraged to sing like divas in order to be good, men just have to sing a self-penned love song and their voice will get overlooked because they're singing a "real," "authentic" song and they're "all about the songs" anyway. If he has good songs, he can get away with other parts not working. But for women? Every part has got to be popping or she's going to be left on the shelf. And the sad thing is, even when she does have it all going on, she still gets overlooked in favour of mediocre men.
