You know, I considered supporting Pete at the beginning of this primary, My eye was always open for him because he seemed like he had promise and could be a left alternative to Joe if perhaps Bernie/Warren flopped to oblivion.

But I decided against it. And it wasn't because Pete people were rude to me for openly saying I wasnt sure I felt he was trustworthy (though they did!)  it was because I read his literal policies as they came out, and I watched his interviews, press releases, sit downs,etc. Like, a lot of them. I actively searched them out for a few momnths.

And as I continued to point out things like "hm, actually Pete's universal healthcare plan isn't universal, I read it" or "Hm, Pete's kind of lacking on his position on marijuana legalization" or whatever, repeatedly, I got called a Bernie Bro.

And then as I pointed out " These early polls look bad for Pete, I don't know if he's going to be able get a massive influx of black support he needs, even if he wins Iowa" what did Pete fans tell me? Oh black people are just homophobic, he just hasn't gotten to talk to them yet, etc.

And as I responded "Well, I think hes gotta get ahead of all these scandals like the police shooting, the firing of the black employees, the housing situation in South Bend, these BLM  protests if he wants to have a chance" I got told the same thing. STOP CRITICIZING HIM YOU BERNIE BRO!

And I said it then: "Look, if you want Pete to win, you should be channelling your energies into improving his favorables with black people, not getting mad at me for pointing out his weaknesses"

His campaign's response? Tried to fake having significant black endorsements... Twice. Lis Smith alluded to the idea that black people are just homophobic. He demonized and erased the people of color in Bernie's coalition. 

And here we are, months later. Pete dropped out and he was never able to overcome the hurdle of increasing his margins with black people. Every single debate I've gotten into with Pete people on here has just been me pointing out the potential flaws of his candidacy in the primary or in the general, or finding some of his policies ineffective, inefficient, or badly written. And your response to me no matter what I've said was derisive. I've been derisive back, I'll take full credit for that. I've also said rude things about him because I think the way he talks about politics is disingenuous, and he lies about things somewhat frequently and actively.

Also, leftist populism is literally the future of America. Whether Bernie gets the nom or they give it to Biden over him and subvert the will of the voters (which will likely result in us losing/an exodus of young liberal democrats over time), Bernie Sanders has successfully shifted the overton window of what is possible in our government to the left. What AOC stands for is the future of the party, and ideas like M4A, a GND, $15/hr minimum wage, etc. will be the defining arguments of our lifetimes. Hell, this entire primary election has been a referendum on "are you with bernie? or against him" and that should be a testament to their popularity and influence if nothing else.

And just to add my two cents: the Pete supporters on this site have been, by far, the nastiest people I've ever interacted with when discussing politics online, which is saying a LOT. You included. You're one of the meanest, pettiest people on here and you always pull this kind of nonsense, lashing out at people on a personal level because you don't seem to care about policy at all. 

And guess what? We'll still welcome you into our movement with open arms because we know that the poor and working class of this country need help, we know that countless young people will continue to suffer under mountains of student loan debt if Bernie doesn't win, and we're willing to work with individuals that we find off-putting to make the lives of people that we don't know just a little easier.

We can only hope Bernie could make a dent when billions in lobbying will go to maintain the status quo, with the momentum of this movement among far left and independent voters.

Yeah, its a movement for a reason - its a constant fight and struggle, and like any movement requires political pressure from all sides. That's why the slogan is Not Me, Us. We know that simply electing Bernie Sanders isn't going to translate into legislative victories at the national level. It takes grassroots organizing, momentum, and sustained energy. They will obviously try to water down his campaign goals. The distinction is that we are at least starting from the best position in a potential bargaining situation, and Bernie supporters don't believe he's going to get in and say "okay, scratch Medicare for All, give me a public option" - he will fight, and like all politicians he will compromise where it is necessary. There were many things Obama didn't fight strong enough for, or just immediately gave up on. Warren is already giving up on things before the nomination is decided and completely 180ing her stated progressive values, Pete flip flopped on ideas the second they got hard, so did Kamala.  

People trust Bernie to be the one who will try and not give up until its lost

CA is important, but he could have easily scheduled a night rally (7:00 p.m.) and slept on the plane there and slept on the plane back to his next location. While I think attending was the morally right thing to do, it brings up another issue with Bernie—he just doesn't contemplate the optics sometimes and unfortunately optics matter a lot in politics.

I think your overestimating the perception of his "problem with black voters" a bit. He doesnt do well with older more conservative AA voters in places like SC, but he does the best or very close with african americans nationally and in places like the midwest, which are more geographically significant to an electoral victory in the general election. Bernie's problem is more about the way the Democratic primaries are ordered and run, he would have a better time just on its face in a general election. If this wasn't true, I would agree this is a very pressing issue.

I agree optics are important, but considering the chances of a contested convention will become more and more likely if not inevitable if we have a nightmare scenario on Tuesday with Joe winning TX, NC, and VA (i think he will) + being viable in CA + Warren stays in the race... I support this choice. A contested convention = Biden wins even if he has less delegates + votes, just flat out its over, so this is probably the exact time to not be concerned about optics and about winning.

You are correct, history will show Pete received an inordinate amount of toxic online harassment from Sanders supporters and staffers. He actually continues to, in spite of no longer being in the race.

This site perfectly mirrored that toxicity every opportunity it could, regularly calling him a rat, a weasel, a loser, Mayor Cheat, Pete The Cheat, etc. GGD wasted no time respectfully acknowledging the end of his historic campaign with a thread: Pete Bottoms Out - a thread full of Sander's supporters cackling at cheap gay jokes. 

I don't share your views about Biden, but I didn't want the gaslighting by the Sander's supporters in this thread to go unmentioned. The ugliness Sander's loyalists showed to Pete, and other candidates, won't be forgotten regardless of the outcome of this primary.

I’ve been critical of Pete, I haven’t gone  out my way to be toxic to his supporters. It’s usually them who start off being toxic (look at your posts in this very thread). 

I’ve supported Sanders since 2015, by the way.
