ANVEEROY 61,254
Jennifer Lopez and Shakira's historic Super Bowl halftime show has been a huge talking point since it went down earlier this month -- and it also drew more than 1,300 complaints to the Federal Communications Communications. Following the epic performance -- which included pole dancing, booty shaking and belly dancing -- some viewers across the United States felt the need to reach out to the FCC and express their disappointment over the "inappropriate" performances by the Latina superstars. The complaints (500 pages total) were made public by the FCC and posted on the FCC's website this week. "Was extremely offensive and inappropriate for kids, was during prime time and many children watching," someone wrote from Colorado. Despite the complaints, 103 million people tuned in to watch J.Lo and Shakira's halftime show -- more than the overall viewership for Super Bowl LIV, which this year recorded 99.9 million people watching the major sporting event. https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/latin/9324535/jennifer-lopez-shakira-super-bowl-halftime-show-draws-more-than-1000-fcc-complaints Stream Kylie-Janet Discographies! StrawberryBlond 14,882
While I don't think there was anything worth complaining about, I understand the culture shock. Latin cultures are just that bit more sexual than others and they think nothing of wearing very little at festivals and dancing provocatively. They usually don't think anything of this kinda thing in front of kids either. I remember hearing about how it's common for really little girls to wear what are essentially thong bikinis in Brazil. And no one's shocked by it at all. Cultural differences need to be respected but it's understandable that outsiders will think it's a bit much. It's a myth that Americans are a bunch of prudes, they love their raunch but it has to be in an appropriate time and place and the fact is that there's very little quality family entertainment opportunities, as in, stuff that both adults and kids can enjoy without feeling awkward. 4 hours ago, Lemondeduerl said: *Violence* US citizens: *Racism* US citizens: *LGBTphobia* US citizens: *Women doing belly dance and pole dance* US citizens: Are you serious? These are the only issues I've heard Americans speaking/complaining about for the last few years. Besides, 1000+ complaints is nothing for 300 million+ America, so it's hardly anyone making that big of a deal really. 4 hours ago, adterp said: the misogyny edit: + high key racism That's because sexuality is different for men and women. Men's bare chests aren't sexualised, women's are and women tend to dance in performances and move more provocatively than men. Whether you agree with that or not, it's just the truth. Women are complained about more because there's more to be complained about. The only men who push things further sexually are not mainstream, so they're not out there to be complained about. And racism? Most people see these women as white and there's always controversy when any woman acts sexually, colour doesn't come into it. People have made complaints over sexual images of Britney, Christina, Gaga, Miley, Pussycat Dolls, etc. These are all white women. Some of the SB complaints were even complaining that it was more controversial than Nipplegate, which involved a black woman. So I don't know what planet you're living on when you say race comes into it.

No. Heteropatriarchy + sexism are why men and women are treated differently, especially regarding body image and sexuality. It shouldn't be. 1 hour ago, StrawberryBlond said: I understand the culture shock. You might saw this as "sexual" from (let me guess) a christian heritage pov, but hi Amerikkka is a melting-pot of people from all around the world with their own cultural heritage. I understand your pov, but the way you phrased it is disrespectful to the latinx culture and poorly worded, to say the least.

That's what I just said - we know why sexuality is different according to gender but whether you agree with it or not, it doesn't matter. Point is, this is how human society functions and it would take literally centuries to evolve past this, so we just have to accept that this is how it works instead of trying to get people to be desenstisized to it. That's never going to happen. Society is so sexualised that we'll never stop being dirty minded and finding provocation in things. I'm British and I'm speaking from a general Western standpoint and saying how most of the world views this performance. Plenty more countries are even more conservative. Most of the world would say this form of dressing and dancing is too much for a family event. I didn't say what I did to be disrespectful, I'm just stating facts here. There's more than one way to interpret something and just because one culture says "it means this" doesn't mean that it will be viewed through the same lens by every culture. A family event where we teach little boys to fight with each other until blood and little girls to be pretty but not too sexy and dance in an appropriate way? No thank you, I don't want to be a part of your world and please don't respond to me ever again.

Any accidents are just that, accidental. I agree cheerleaders are too sexualised, though. But chill out. We've only just spoken and already you're hating on me.
