That’s ok and your opinion is valid but let the ones who like it enjoy it :vegas:

Considering this is Pitchfork talking about mainstream POP artist Lady Gaga - yes this is worth celebrating. Read previous reviews by Pitchfork. They are brutal.

They're just not biased towards pop stars lol. I'm just saying: they praised Gaga only to the extent that they praised Dua Lipa. So that's not specific praise towards Gaga lol, especially when they're negatively comparing this release to her previous outings :smh:

But whatever. If you guys are happy, then I'm happy for y'all.

Yes but it’s kind of out of place in this thread. This is about a good review the song got and then you specifically quoted someone to tell them their opinion is wrong. That’s just annoying. Let us enjoy it, don’t try to change our minds like we won’t try to change yours.

You are an adult, read the room or at least read the thread. Everyone in here is surprised with the positive review. Voicing your opinion is one thing. But knowing when and where is more important.

tltr: don’t rain on someone’s parade.

Huh? So if they praised Dua it means Gaga's praise doesn't count? I don't the point you're trying to make. Praising something does not mean they can't point out flaws. The title clearly states they think it's a refreshing return to her roots and that it's "filling a void" - how is that not a good thing especially coming from Pitchfork? Try not to always see the negative in things :sara:

I don't want to be negative, but both song and mv are cheap.

Did you see btw mv or judas?

It's cheap for me either, but in a really positive way. That was the clue of this mv

If they praised Dua of all possible people it means they're absolutely not as brutal on pop stars as everyone has been pretending they are for the last couple of years, that's what I mean :emma:

And again: they're not saying Gaga is filling a void, they're saying that both Dua and Gaga are doing that but that, even while doing so, it's still a letdown compared to Gaga's earlier outings. That's about the current pop landscape more than this specific song.

Anyway, whatever. It's just weird to me that fans have to pretend reviews are better than they are to feel good about a release. Who cares. One day this fanbase doesn't give a crap about critics, the next they're suddenly ok with it. It's absurd.

Lady Gaga has remained one of the biggest pop stars on the planet without actually making much pop music. She abandoned her synths and donned her best cowgirl drag for 2016’s rootsy Joanne, and while she buried a few in-character bangers deep in the soundtrack for A Star Is Born, that movie’s enduring hits were classic power ballads that would’ve sounded just as comfortable in 1978 as in 2018. “Stupid Love,” her new single, is her much-ballyhooed return to pop-as-genre. It’s “classic Gaga,” that imperial phase at the end of the ’00s when the only thing bigger than her hits were the music videos and conceptual art pieces surrounding them.

The song gestures toward that era without achieving the same kind of grandeur. Those big-budget mini-films were often accompanied by music that was just as audacious; the bulletproof hooks spread throughout The Fame Monster and Born This Way were coated in hair metal grease and industrial grime. If the brawny, shiny disco of “Stupid Love” sounds like anything in her catalog, it’s a sped-up version of “Do What U Want,” a song mostly erased from the public record because of its prominent R. Kelly feature. The video’s embrace of late-’90s JRPG energy pales in ambition and scale compared to “Bad Romance” or “Telephone.”

And yet it still feels like “Stupid Love” is filling a void in our downcast, anxious, genre-fluid landscape: The only other artist working in this mode is Dua Lipa, whose Future Nostalgia singles—big, bright, and heart-on-sleeve—have pushed her into a new echelon of pop stardom. There’s an appetite for this kind of unapologetically exuberant sound, one evidenced by the communal frenzy for the leaked version of this song earlier this year that earned a tongue-in-cheek reprimand from Gaga herself. “Stupid Love” may not reposition her at pop’s bleeding edge, but it captures just enough of the goofy, indomitable spirit that made her so refreshing in the first place.

WHY achievement? Because they usually hate her.

Pitchfork stanning for once? Shook. Tbh, I'm just over the moon with the sheer level of PAYOLA PROMO that Interscope have invested in to this. She has billboards around the world, she's #1 on TTH on Spotify and practically all the big pop playlists, #1 on all of Deezer's biggest playlists (not like they matter tho), high up and featured on many of Apple Music's playlists (although she could be #1 on the biggest ones like Today's Hits, considering she sacrificed video quality & cinematic by shooting her video on their damn iPhone)... and they even paid the bastards that are Pitchfork to say something nice for once!!

haha I'm kidding. but the label finally learned.

But they ARE biased just in a bad way. They hate pop stars, specifically they hate 2010s synth pop. There is not a single song that is synth pop they actually like except that album from Robyn. They are in favor of trap, hip hop recently. And alternative rock is their main course.

Who's gonna praise her next? Madonna? Boy George? Bowie's son? Place your bets.

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.
