You can try this with your phone and put something really close to it, then it focuses on the object and the rest gets blurry - your picture now has depth to it. That is way easier to produce with bigger sensors and lenses in bigger cameras (like your Nikons, Canons, or cinema cameras). I'm trying to say, that mistakes like these happen to me, a far from professional "aspiring" filmmaker. They should not happen to someone the caliber of Gaga. Especially for the lead video. In every picture there is a certain area of your image in front of, and behind the subject that will appear in focus. Simply, when you have a subject on a frame, there will be objects behind and in front of it (background and foreground) which may or may not be out of focus. The more depth of field, the more focus will both objects in front and behind the main subject will receive. If the objects in the foreground and background are sharp, they steal visual attention from the actual subject that its being photograph. it makes the frame look flat. Lets say you are standing in for a picture and there is a tree behind you. If I set up my camera to have a lot of depth of field, then that tree behind you will be in full focus and sharpened, thus competing with you for the attention of the photograph. If I set the camera to have only a few meters of depth of focus, the tree will appear blurry, and you will appear accentuated within the frame. The blurriness will make the viewer sense that there is an actual distance between you and the tree, thus diving the frame some "depth" If you see the teasers, they both have a lot of depth of field, making the background and mountains too foused. Iphones do not have the capacity to change their depth of field as they are not made to do that. Not even cameras can. You have to buy separate adjustable lenses to change the depth of field. Someone with the caliber of Gaga has seen the teasers a dozen of times before she post them.Together with her team, management and label. The so called 'mistakes' are noticed for sure. But they didn't decide to remove them so I wouldn't call them mistakes but choices. She made some choices you maybe don't like or prefer, but that don't make them mistakes. It's an honor.
