I know most of us know this already, but just in case there's anyone new to chart watching, this is why streaming the song directly from Today's Top Hits is important.

Placement at certain positions on Today's Top Hits doesn't guarantee the same position will be achieved on Spotify's charts (as in, placement at #1 on TTH doesn't guarantee the song will go #1 on the WW/country specific charts), but as the playlist is the most followed and listened to on Spotify, high placement on it will guarantee it is placed in front of millions of potential listeners that may not have listened to it otherwise, thus boosting its possibility for high placement on actual Spotify charts.

Although how a song is chosen for TTH placement hasn't been revealed, Spotify has stated that statistical data and personal curation on their part is what decides if a song will be included and at what position. (Although it wouldn't shock me if money talks as well. ) It's because of this that streaming directly from TTH is so important – in doing so, you're showing Spotify that there is demand to hear the song on the playlist, thus increasing the likelihood that it will stay higher on it for longer, which, as I mentioned, indirectly boosts how the song performs on the actual Spotify charts. Adding the song to your personal playlists and liking the song/adding it to your library directly from TTH also helps with this positive data. Also be sure NOT to skip the song on TTH, as that has the reverse effect and is an indication to Spotify that the song is not getting positive reception on TTH, thus increasing the chances of it being moved lower on the list and lessening its stay on it altogether.
