People need to realize and remember that more poppy songs usually take awhile to catch on in the US. It took FOREVER for Don't Start Now to catch on, and even Blinding Lights took a while to catch on compared to everywhere else. 

It's just how it is. US is more into hip hop and trap. 

It should be expected that it's going to be underwhelming in the beginning. If it catches on, it will take some time.
