"Mr. Sanders proposes to pay for the debt-forgiveness effort with a new tax on financial transactions. Progressive Democrats in Congress introduced a bill last year to impose a 0.1% tax on deals such as stock purchases and derivatives trades. The idea has gained momentum in recent years as progressives seek higher taxes on the financial sector, but Republicans generally oppose the levy"

Er.. uhm … yeah … and a lot of high end Dem's won't go for the funding method either ,  they make their money from financial speculation on wall street ..

I like Bernie's idea … but again … it's not as simple as stated ..

Yet there is always money for war and corporate tax cuts, funding the military and bailing out wall street thugs.

This country has socialism and its socialism for the rich!!

If we can’t find one way, we will find another.

the lack of money is an illusion, the top 1% are all hogging it.

This.

I'm so sick of regular people running with the same corporate media and Republican talking points and the double standard where military and tax cuts NEVER GET THE QUESTION of how we're going to pay for it.

But as soon as it's plans to help REGULAR PEOPLE suddenly it's nothing but "BUT HOW WILL WE PAY FOR IT?? WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY!!"

With enough pressure from the public, they will have to make it work. The plan itself is good, the money is there and that tax won't have a huge effect on whether or not people participate in stock exchange and purchase. In the end, this questioning is simply about rich people wanting to stay rich and become richer. And a middle class that still believes the " American Dream" is real.

REALITY

It baffles me that we don't question anything else the government spends its money on, but when it comes to things like Medicare for All and free college tuition, it's like, "Oh my god! How will we ever pay for this?! This is so unbelievably difficult to do!".

Like, y'all want to talk about how we want to pay for things now? What about the war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, bank bail outs, tax cuts for the rich and powerful, etc., etc., etc.? It's interesting to see people go against their own self interests for the sake of trying to look intellectually superior...

It's called corruption... and this is my argument that Bernie won't get his plan implemented … doesn't matter what's right here …

The real solution will have to be a change in leadership and conventional methods are gonna take time ...

continued scrutiny of who we elect for the next few years is gonna matter if regular people want to get corrupted leaders out of office ..

0.1% is a huge tax for the stock market. This will never happen.
Why are stock market investors supposed to pay for your education? This makes zero sense.

Sanders  appears to target only billionaires during this election cycle because he's now a millionaire  himself. He was a jobless loser before holding pubic office, and now he's making a lot of greenbacks by selling his socialist propaganda to spoiled Americans millennials.

Because access to education, including higher ed, is a human right. Simple as that. The state must provide equitable, free access to it. Why again? Because it is a basic human right.

Also, this socialist proaganda thing, lmao, like you haven't been indoctrinated into adoring free market capitalism from the moment you are born, gimme a break.

Wait, a president that won't be able to follow through on everything he wants to make happen?

SHOCKING! :selena:

No president has ever accomplished every goal. I'd rather have a president who wants to make our lives better as much as possible and only accomplishes a little of it than a president whose only interest is in continuing a system of corporate-funded, government-approved oppression.

I used to think people like this were trolls but with Trump being president I've come to realise there's many of you. I have no idea how someone could think like this.

0.1 is a huge tax? Is this a ****ing joke? Have we been so conditioned to give a free pass to rich people so as to worry about 0.1 of their stock exchanges?

You really believe that money they're making is not better spent getting millions of people education? So that everyone has an equal chance of receiving education, which will completely change society?

The last thing you said makes 0 sense. Your whole paragraph literally makes no points whatsoever. He made a million selling a book, which means..? He used to not have a job and then he did, which means..? He has millenial support and is socialist, which means..?

chaeri pls

Instead of spending his time on a dream that likely won’t happen, why is he not focusing on making sure colleges can’t charge an insane amount. How is it that colleges were like $1000-$2000 per semester in the 70’s and are now more than $20,000 per semester? And let me tell you the modern wage hasn’t been multiplied by 10+

So your strategy is to wait and hope? Okay, sis.I don't think anyone is convinced Bernie will be able to implement every single thing off his list. Of course real social change takes years (decades, really) to come about, but why would just rather wait and hope than push it in every way possible?

I hope nobody is expecting a Sanders presidency to magically fix everything. This is NOT EASY, guys.

But it's better to AIM HIGH and then compromise than AIM LOW (most Dems) and then get screwed over by Republicans in the end result.

Even if Sanders loses the nomination, or loses against Trump, these things are NOT going away. The narrative has been pushed and people have woken up. We will keep fighting until these issues are tackled and resolved. This is a long-term process. This isn't going to happen with one president. We must be persistent.

Funny thing. The reason why college costs so much is because students can get into debt for it. Basically, in the late 70s, the government passed an act giving students and potential students access to federally subsidized student loans. This meant more and mor students, who before that could not have gone to college at all, were now available to get an education and pay it back later. However, as colleges knew they were going to get paid regardless, they started raising costs  to take advantage of that. The other side of this is that, as enrollment increased (more people going to college), state funding remained the same. So at this point, state funding cannot keep up with the number of students. So, basically, there is not enough funding from the government to support state schools. And because of access to loans, private colleges have an easy road towards charging more and more every year.
