Absolutely agree that a promo single would be the first really big disappointment of the era for me; I am trying to stay totally positive about a lot of things because of how well planned the promo and rollout of SL went. If this era is a little bit lowkey but she delivers 3-4 singles with MVs on time and as scheduled, that’s a major win. The fact that EOG remains her 2nd highest debut as a promo single with digital sales only is a stain on an amazing album with a tragic rollout. That she repeated the mistake with the flip flopping on ARTPOP for all three singles, and again with A-YO vs MR on Joanne is... mind blowing. I think that this album had a lot of time restraints and while that means the album is coming sooner than I’d have wanted (SL deserves 2 full months to grow before the release and full support of a 2nd single 1-2 weeks prior to the album would’ve been my preference since SL is becoming an organic radio hit, the 2nd single and album drop promo would support each other, and the momentum of 2 hit songs and a hit album would be more than enough to secure a 3rd single before the era loses relevancy), it may have also prevented any straying from the agenda. I don’t think I can totally back down from my feeling that last week was in desperate need of at least one in-person appearance given that she dropped a lead single, an album per order, and tour without so much as truly explaining the concept of Chromatica, the tribes, etc. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
