100%. Born This Way has everyone together.

As soon as issues arose behind the scenes after she broke her hip, that's when the fanbase switched from love and acceptance, to entitlement and hate.

I've been a fan since The Fame, and have been on the forums since the beginning, and believe me when I say the culture has drastically changed. little Monsters used to actually be a sweet and supportive community. I think that was honestly one if the initial reasons I felt a connection to her, was because of the fanbase.

Yesterday I was told that I look like I am on meth and should stay indoors.

Aside from a few users, I can understand why 90% of her fanbase has abandoned Twitter and her forum, and why Gaga doesn't interact with us. I really used to feel loved and supported here, and it was fun to talk with other fans, and be able to be like "Hey I love The Queen!" And then they could go, "I love Bad Kids!" Versus "I love The Queen!" And now they respond "Your taste is trash, that song sucks".

This album era absolutely sucks and honestly, it's less because of Gaga and her team, and more cuz of the "fans".

But I digress. I'm feeling some type of way and am 4 drinks deep.

Yes, because being gay in 2013+ was about how much you being shady and create/handle drama. Thus everyone is doing their best to be as shady as possible so he can be a 'shady queen' and get reactions. This sadly doesn't happen in forums only but in real life as well. I'm not making this about gender but I really start to feel unconformable aroud gay friends or groups because all they become about is being shady and gossiping.

I think reality shows such as Drag Race spread this kind of culture. that particular show is all about drama and being a bi!ch toward each other, but somehow its warpped up in a love letter

I was saying this in the "chromatica has been delayed" thread.  That imo was the lowest of this fanbase EVER

I’ve been around long enough to see Gaga mad at fans and fans mad at Gaga. Is it me or is this the worst it’s ever been? Have we all become best enemies towards each other?

We've had our ups and downs but when she announced chromatica was delayed was the worst i've ever seen this fan base.

question; do you think it could be an age thing? either fans getting older and bitter as life goes on or younger fans being arrogant and just wanting "bops" and not a message....kind of a silly question (both corny and deep but just a fleeting thought)

You could definitely be on to something there, but I'm realizing that as I get older, I've realized that being bitter, and full of hatred isn't the way to go. Some of these Monsters are full of bitterness, hatred, and entitlement to the point that it's not even funny. I mean, wanting bops is alright, but there's literally more to discover than just pop music.

Do y’all remember the videos we would get of Gaga and Tara stoned saying they were going to do a music video contest and a dress styling competition amongst her most talented fans? :bradley:

ugh the things that never happened 💙

Sure do.

Been around since 2009 and I can confirm that this is indeed true, unfortunately.

In my experience, the community first started to crumble during/after the FAME (the perfume) era when Gaga had her first official hiatus from music before ARTPOP.  Over time the sense of community and love that united us all once began to dwindle, and now that very concept of stanbase community feels lost on most people.

It's been heartbreaking to witness as a longtime fan, and it becomes even more real when we see how even Gaga withdraws herself from social media now - a far cry from when she was the Queen of Twitter and interacted with her fans all the time.

I wonder if we got ever go back. Wishful thinking, I know, but something about your post just hit home and reminded me of much sweeter times and fonder memories being a part of this fanbase.

I still love Gaga and I love all of my friends from back in the day, that much hasn't changed, and certainly never will.

i'm so tired of the notion that being shadey is a personality trait its all very highschool i feel like we're a bunch of grown kids watching fights break out on the playground. and as far as drag goes i do drag weekly for shows and while the exposure that the show brought to queens was good for their income and spreading the art to popularity it certainly makes people act different....lately i notice a lot of people care less about the art or self expression and more about social media presence and whos more popular than who

Literally.

We used to celebrate things she did, and she clearly enjoyed that, and as soon as the fanbase changed, she did too.

Her wigs ALWAYS used to be messy. Her makeup was always all over the place. It's only NOW a problem.

It just sucks because we live in a world where everyone is so divided all the time, I miss being able to connect with other fans about our common interests.

I don't care what she's wearing or how her hair looks. I just want to sit around with fellow monsters and watch all her videos and talk about which parts we love, versus which parts we hate.

Sigh.

This! Our fanbase was full of happiness, celebration, and positivity. What happened to that ****? There's literally no need for all this constant negativity at all.

I don't know why they find it a problem now either. Gaga usually had messy looks in the past, but did anyone blame Tara for that? No. So why does Sarah catch the brunt of it?

And same here. I don't give a d*** about what she wears out in public, how her makeup looks, or how messy her wigs are, or hair is. I only care that she's in good spirits, and that SHE's fine with the way she looks.

I feel like it might have been a little before that. I remember seeing all the stupid fights over the video for The Edge of Glory. That’s the first memory I have of petty fights within the fanbase. But maybe it’s around ARTPOP that it got really bad.

Also I have to say, the culture on the web generally changed a lot, in a bad way. Stan culture became an actual thing. More and more people felt comfortable on those platforms, therefore those cultures also grew, and that also means more negativity and hate and rivalry. (Not trying to justify it, it’s absolutely awful.)

I'm just sad.

I'm sorry guys, I'm not trying to be a downer. But I've been a part of this fanbase for 12 years and it's just sad that the sense of community and love and acceptance I felt is completely gone.

You can't have differing opinions. It's all "shade", and dragging, and catty behavior, and just constant negativity.

Even when you speak out about the negative stuff, people just ban together to tell you to get over it and deal with it

Just honestly sad. Im grateful I wasnt alone like I am now in the beginning for my love for Gaga, because I probably wouldn't have had the courage to feel free and explore my music interests. Ill never forget Gaga rising out of the stage four feet in front of me at the artrave and feeling like I was I. A dream, and my friend at the time recording ME versus her because he was so excited to see my reaction.

Now it's just constant arguing and complaining.

Sigh.

I'm over it. Hope Chromatica comes soon.

I feel like we could attribute this to more widespread internet usage.  If born this way was released in todays age the exact same way, it would pan out as worse as ARTPOP or now imo.
