Before NFR by Lana Del Rey leaked, the 2017 version of a song was recognized by Shazam even though the album version had instrumental and lyric changes.

Now the song can be different (or not) but Shazam recognising it doesn't prove it won't be.

So they went for the “make some lemonade out of lemons” approach or they purposely leaked it initially? I notice on Shazam there is no profile pic when it recognizes it.

I think Shazam uses a database and this database is updated with songs and albums before of their official release. Or labels submit it directly to them. 

I know of Lana's situation because I am a fan and I followed her release. She basically  teased snippets from various songs and for the longest time shazaming them didn't work. A few weeks before the release the names of these snippets started to show up when shazaming and they weren't fan uploaded because fans were using mostly different names (for example Cinnamon Girl was the title that showed up for the song fans  were calling Cinnamon). And these titles turned out to be true. There is no other way for this to happen if they didn't use an official database.

Shazam is a super complicated program that uses a LOT of math to recognize digital fingerprints in music files. A song can have nuanced changes and still be recognizable by Shazam, so it is very possible the leaked song is the real one, but also possible that the actual released song will have different lyrics, a slightly slower or faster beat, be longer or shorter, etc.

Id be sad if final version is the leak, that version feels empty in some parts and with a rework can be so much better, I still have hope.

Why are some of y’all sad or surprised by this? It was obvious....

Like, I think obviously there will be some changes here and there, but I don’t think that it should be a surprise that the majority of the song is the same. 

And if any of you guys are disappointed because you listened to the leak too many times and expected something new, that’s on you.....Even if it’s the EXACT same as the leak, at least now it’s officially done, mastered, and now is released officially.
