In a country with free healthcare.

Healthcare is never free.

It's included in the taxing.

I'm sick of this. It's not more lethal than common flu and everybody is acting like it's some kind of apocalypsis. I'm a diagnosed hypochondriac and I'm the one who's trying to calm down people around me.

This is false. The lethality of this virus is higher than the common flu. Stop spreading misinformation.

It’s true we shouldn’t fall into panic and hysteria but not by making others feel better by spreading misinformation.

Death rate outside of its epicenter (Wuhan) is at 0.7% so I don't think its our time yet unless you are 80

Compare that with the 10%-20% rate for the flu (depends on a lot of factors) and I think we'll be ok

I wanna know more.  I'm being curious, not ignorant.

How does is affect your life? How do medical people treat you? (The diagnosis)

Medical people use to don't take me seriously when I go to the hospital once they read my medical record. The thing is I improved a lot through the years. Years ago they referred me to a psychiatrist who prescribed me some pills, but I didn't take them because I was afraid of the side effects.

This is false. The flu does not have a death rate of 10-20%

Thank you! I'm tired of this Apocalyptic mood everywhere. :madge:ne

Sorry, I had to make my sarcasm more clear.. Because that's exactly what I think too, news are so exagerating the whole impact of this virus.. It's just a bit stronger than a regular flu.. The only thing that would make me sad if I got it and accidentally infected my grandparents.. :(

So yeah it's sad for older people, but the virus itself is for most people harmless, so we should really worry les about it (but yeah my previous post didn't make it clear)

You looked at the 1918 flu pandemic which did have a 20% death rate.

Actually, the statistic I saw is for pneumonia cases caused by the flu. They then clarified later that it's an "outbreak statistic", not an individual's real chances :rip:

Always check your sources, kids :enigma:

So people, just so you know, the mortality rate doesn't only include the lethality of the disease.

It also includes the capacity a country has to cure you or help you.

In case of a pandemic, the problem is not the virus itself, it's the fact that hospitals will be overcrowded, stopping people from getting their medecines. You don't die of this virus if you are under a close supervision. Now imagine you are sick and you're hospital is full and you don't have the right to leave your city...

The media really are making this look more deadly than it is.

I work for my nation's Public Health department and the amount of people who contact us thinking they're going to die because they ate Chinese food or took a plane from anywhere is astounding.

Based on China's study of 72,000 cases a couple of weeks ago, this is your likelihood of dying if you catch COVID-19.

As you can see, your chances as a young person are pretty low (and I'm assuming nobody aged 70+ is a GGD user). It's those with pre-existing issues such as weak immune systems, respiratory or heart issues who we need to worry about and prioritise. This virus is very similar to seasonal flu.

And you trust the Chinese government’s figure....

They never tell you the crematories in Wuhan working 24 hours nonstop since the beginning of this month.
