Yes power of the people - the same people who continue to request the federal government take action instead of people themselves. We all know how efficiently things run when MORE government is involved (ie Dept of Education receiving more funds yet testing scores have not changed). Seeing how easy it is to overpower him (already two of his supporters have taken the podium from him) , Id really like to know how the rest of political figures around him will suddenly how to his majesty ?

he may not send the rich to the gulag but it’s concerning when he says billionaires shouldn’t exist and his so hungry to implement changes that lead to tyrants like Stalin and Mao to run rampant. Plus I honestly don’t feel like paying MORE into taxes - anyone making above 29K annually be paying more in taxes and based on some numbers I’ve done in regards to how frequently i visit the doctor and the copays I have to provide from my insurance - I’ll be losing money but at the moment I’m only making about 50k a year barely enough to live on my own in my state while also paying my student loans , car loan, etc etc etc - even with the student loan erased I won’t save much but you know ... somehow it’s my responsibility to help others when I can barely help myself

Government is inneficient with resources ull get no argument with me there.

They tend to overstaff more, and require more financial resources to get the same done as companies who have a profit motive and therefore try to do with as little labour and resources as possible

That's why full employment thru mass government control like Cuba or Soviet Union era fail to create prosperity. More employment without productivity doesn't help poverty. After all people do have jobs and they complain the big issue is pay or a good job not finding work itself and too much Government would only make that worse long term

But I also think there's specific things that are still in people's interest run by government

Healthcare for example is not an elastic industry like most everyday goods and services and the same laws of supply and demand don't apply to the same degree... There's also the cost inneficiency of the middle man (insurance companies) who also have to pay their operating costs plus their own profit margins

In the case of healthcare it still ends up being cheaper to be run by government even if they have cost overruns on a few things private companies would have their eye on more

Education is another thing. Even if it ends up costing a little more, if it was government funded and more accessible... The benefits to the public would still outway any larger costs I'd say

Imagine thinking America is "the most perfect country in the world"

What an abject admission of privilege and elitism :rip: Like, just wear an "I'm out of touch" sticker on your chest at this point.

Personally I think ppl who call him a community are seriously exxagerating and fear mongering

But I also think his policies also go beyond the ideal balance too

I also don't take popularity as any kind of proof that an idea is good or bad... The majority of the population does not have significant knowledge on economics...

They just know their issues, they wouldn't really know if any intention to help them could cause a broader backfire effect or not

I'm not saying that about all Bernie policies nor am I saying ALL supporters are unknowledgeable

But I am saying that I don't think what's "popular" among people necessarily mean anything

Low-key even tho I don't believe in his degree of policy take over I kinda want him to get elected and actually manage to pass almost everything so his policies can be tested and that way if they turn out to work, skeptics like me can stop being skeptical...

But if they don't work people can finally understand concerns about backfiring good intentions weren't just ignorant enemies trying to defend Corporations and that crossing a certain threshold could do more harm than good

I feel like if we don't just give it a shot this battle will drag for 100 years and no one will be proven right or wrong

Personally I think his policies go too far, but I also think it will take 10 or 15+ years for his policies negative impacts to truly be felt and if it turns out to be the case he certainly won't live to see it (unless he lives really long)

Well it is thru observation I mean how else can anyone argue this with statistics? This is too difficult to get technical on :emma:

But if ppl are gonna get triggered that I do think we're lazy fine I'll take it back :triggered:

This site is filled with ppl who get triggered if you don't pass their purity tests anyway I'm used to holding back certain thoughts cuz ppl cant handle it :rip:

The problem isn't people being triggered, but you taking anecdotal evidence that you have and passing that off as objective fact that can be generalized to an entire generation that encompasses millions and millions of people.

I'm sorry, but that's just not how it works. Your own experiences and anecdotes aren't generalizable to an entire generation. I know many people of the same generation who are super clean and OCD about their rooms, myself included. Yet I don't go around claiming that's how the entire generation is. I would think you would know this considering your knowledge of economic stats and such.

Bottom line is you shouldn't make such sweeping generalizations based off your own experiences. The same method could be used to call the Baby Boomers lazy if one person had anecdotal evidence that they didn't clean their rooms.  :triggered:

It's just a ridiculous argument with no objective basis and which should be called out. Not people "getting triggered".

Ppl here generalize on anecdotal evidence all the time especially if it's against Centrists or Conservatives who are not all the same. I suppose that's suddenly ok?

Anyway I was sharing my observation and perception of it. But yes it's anecdotal and I will acknowledge that I cannot prove this with some kind of statistic like u can on an economics discussion

Frankly most ppl here share opinions tho based on anecdotal evidence. They only point out it's anedoctal evidence and have an issue with it the moment they don't like what the opinion is

But yes I cannot say it is a fact. It's my opinion. If I worded like a fact I apologize

Judge Judy was on Real Time with Bill Maher a few months ago, and she was there solely to promote Mike Bloomberg. So, that's where she's coming from.

What

Power of the People IS the people taking action.
Action to change the government. You literally answered your own question again, people power will do it. Calls to representatives will do it. Primaries will do it. Peaceful protests will do it.

Having the billionaires pay their fair share of taxes did not lead to Stalin and Mao sksks Jesus. You’ll pay kite in taxes yes, but with copays, premiums and additional health costs gone, you’ll save less overall. Bernie has been saying this.

Bernie is trying help others, and you, by making it easier to live financially.

Popularity is all that matters when it comes to an election, but he’s loved bc he’s science based AND compassionate. Bernie has explained how he’s gonna pay for all his plans, and explained why they need to happen his way. It’s only happening now bc he’s mot afraid to standup to the rich unlike Mayo Pete and others.

His policies don’t go too far when an entire generation is struggling to pay off student debt that didn’t even exist a few decades before (thanks capitalism)

His policies don’t go too far when 60k+ are dying a year bc they can’t afford to go to the doctor, and when M4A saves $450B a year

His policies don’t go too far when there is no such thing as too much when it comes to saving the planet for our future generations.

His policies aren’t perfect but getting a 75 on a paper is way better than a 35

But the issue with testing out those socialist policies is the consequences they can inquire and the desire for those implementing the policies to continue pushing them forward - we don’t need the United States to become VenezuelaV2 ... We can’t even test the policies in smaller populations because that isn’t representative of it working on a large heterogenous scale like the United States

Funny enough Canadians tend to visit the United States because of poor conditions of their own healthcare system.

Capitalism has nothing to do with the cost of education. We’ve bloated the system. We’ve forced it to be occupied with unnecessary administrators and kangaroo courts. College sports. Campus life. Extensions to dormitories etc ALL of that has driven up costs. But here’s another issue - we’ve been misinformed that we NEED to have a college education. We’ve been duped into thinking we need a college social experience. If you want to save costs, go to a local school and commute - opt for a community college. You can also attend a vocational or trade school and earn just as much if not more than most college degrees.

What’ll happen is schools are going to become crowded and a college educational will become far less valuable to the job market..something that is already happening.

Bernie can want to tax the billionaires (he used to say millionaires - until he became one .. cute Bernie) but that won’t manage to pay for all the luxuries he wants to provide us especially when he’s become so lax on immigration. What it’s going to do is force billionaires and companies to leave the shores of the United States or store their money elsewhere like they already do...you can want to stand up to the rich as much as you want but without the rich , most of us wouldn’t have jobs because it’s those billionaires that typically own the companies that put food on our tables. Poke the bear, don’t out right stab because it WILL maul you...

It may matter in getting elected it doesn't automatically prove the policies are good

Just because he's explained doesn't mean he's correct. First of all Few experts think some of his taxes will yield as much as he expects... In fact that's a common pattern with governments that try big taxes on the rich. They are always overly optimistic on how much it will actually yield

And he's still yet to explain how he will replace significantly deminishing revenue from wealth tax in 10+ years for example when wealth base significantly deminishes...

He wants to take a lot of wealth from billionaires to pay for stuff. I don't even think that's necessarily a bad idea short term... But once he's significantly reduced their wealth there will be way less left to tax out and u have to have a plan long term. Most of Bernie's plans are long term programs not short term projects. Taxes that yield a lot of money now but not in 1 or 2 decades could present a serious challange

And ur just listing to me what the issues are. I'm not dismissing them nor do I not acknowledge them. I know those issues exist...

People like me don't need to be convinced that those problems exist. Ppl like me need to be convinced his policies would actually work without Backfiring that's the point

I think more redistribution is a good idea that doesn't mean I think the level he wants to go to is a good idea... Too much of anything is never good and frankly I think that applies to left wing economics

Some of the tax levels he's proposing would make the US completely uncompetitive internationally

If wealth generation or investment decreases, in time that will leave much less to redistribute

Ppl can have whatever opinions they want.

When it comes to healthcare I do agree with Bernie ideas actually on healthcare

Healthcare isn't ur typical industry and it's very inelastic and doesn't follow the same rules of supply and demand to the same degree as a pair of shoes or bags of chips... The profit margins you gotta pay for in hospitals plus the costs of the middle man (insurance companies) plus their profit margins as well just bloat the cost of the system

The US already spends twice per capita on healthcare as a typical developed nation

If ur concern is quality, based on the amount the US already spends on healthcare now u can have a BETTER quality universal healthcare system than most Countries do even other rich countries

The issue isn't just the system it's also how much money u choose to pump into it. The US "quality" if 1/2 was spent on it like in other nations would also have the same issues perhaps even worse because of the waste in the system. So it's also about funding not just which system you choose

Canada doesn't like deficits and debt so it's conservative with spending. The US already overspends a lot anyway might as well overspend on covering everyone then
