Trump going, "I thought it was the best foreign film, no?" just shows you how ignorant and stupid he really is. Like, just because a movie is from another country doesn't mean that it can't win Best Picture? Especially with one as great and amazing as Parasite? No. A community of artists recognizing the achievements of their peers is not pretending. And the Academy still drives major box office for all these films. Parasite is Bong's highest grossing U.S. release for this reason. The Academy is literally helping to keep an industry of non-franchise filmmakers in business.
