#5 I Disagree

I-Disagree.jpg

Average score: 8.99

Highest score: 10 - @Enzo @Marges @GaGaLB

Lowest score: 7.8 - @SimonSays

Comment(s):

@SimonSays : This was my jam for a month. I wish it went a little harder, but at the same time I think it’s hard enough. I won’t give it an 8 only because I feel like it doesn’t hit as hard as the previous track.

@Esteban : "Watashi wa anata ni dōi shimasen" - Spooky goth metal vibe, japanese lyrics, hip hop industial rythm. Catchy chorus on nu-metal guitars riffs with a light theremin. Rapcore during the post chorus. Cute and "popy" bridge. The clip is really cool too. This song works as a whole contrary to "concrete". I like the "anti industry" meaning of the song too.

Poppy about the song:

A lot of my songs take a long time, but that one was pretty straight forward. The whole album looks at a time that was really a crossroads, and I had to make a lot of really important decisions really fast. I feel like I made the best one. ‘I Disagree’… I love singing that song at my shows and it seems like the fans really enjoy it because I feel everyone at some point in their lives feels misunderstood or restricted or disrespected or just not listened to. And I think that song speaks to those people.

The now upcoming #4 will probably upset some people :awkney: . Also, the difference between #5 and #4 is only 0.01 :duck:

#4 Concrete

Concrete.jpg

Average score: 9.00

Highest score: 11 - @Enzo @GaGaLB @Blue Madonna

Lowest score: 6.5 - @Tranquility

Comment(s):

@ProjectJoanne : LOVE this song! :firega:

@SimonSays : When it came out I didn’t bother to listen to this. I just didn’t like it. But it grew on me and now it’s one of my favorite songs from her. I love the production.

@Esteban : "Burry me six feet deep, cover me in concrete turn me into street" - Poppy described her new album as postgenre, but this don't prevent us to pick up and notice the various styles who fed her music...Because it still difficult to describe her music without referents, so...

Drum'n'bass during the intro, crazy death metal solos, hysterical japanese anime chorus, heavy industrial guitars riffs with nu metal voice, baroque theater vibe during the first verse with the harpschord, UK rock and pop during the outro... It's Alice in Deathmetaland.It works but there is maybe too much influences, I know she is the queen for making a song with 5 songs inside of it but it doesn't work as a whole this time. But stills interesting for the idea, the references and the combination of cute and gore!

@Blue Madonna : I love this song SO much, best song of 2020 so far. The way it effortlessly combines nu-metal, j-pop and stadium rock... whew. Such an exciting and refreshing piece of music.

Poppy about the song:

I would describe this one as “X”’s cousin. They were written around a similar time. “Concrete” was the first song we wrote for this record, so [it features] lots of harmonies and a very prominent breakdown. It’s about wanting to be buried underground, killing off an older version of yourself.
