I have already tried watching a lot but so far no other show has enticed me as much as Buffy and Supernatural have.

Another common suggestion is an anthology of the new slayers but I don’t want to keep getting new slayers every season. It won’t let us be attached to the characters. Fray lets us have continuity with a unique setting.

I actually have never gotten around to watching Supernatural - I may have to add that to my list. I could not watch the original Charmed so I haven’t had any interest in trying the new one. I just finished the Magicians books and just started watching season one and it is a little all over the place already.

I wouldn’t mind an anthology type thing but it could be done more like a mini series. I think Fray is the best chance for longevity and growth like you said since it builds on the existing mythology, has an established mythology of its own, and has a ton of room to keep going. I would love it on HBO or Showtime or even FX with no restrictions on language. Dollhouse would have done so much better on one of those networks I think.

The show is SO good.

And in Season 4, they talk about Buffy, a lot.

I’m liking it so far - just struggling with some of the changes from the book story line that I don’t understand the reason for - but I like it. And now I want to hurry and get to season 4!

Please do! Some of the actors and writers also contributed to Supernatural and they often reference Buffy as well. I'll say this and I think @Doot can attest to it that at the very least, the first 5 seasons are amazing. They use monsters as metaphors (something newer shows forget) for real-life issues.

The Magicians is also in my watchlist but right now I'm still in the middle of X-Files and original Charmed.

I would also like it to tackle how the slayers were wiped out and how it led to Fray. I know the comics mentions an apocalyptic battle but I think they can add to that event.

Ok! I will make Supernatural my summer show to binge watch if I don’t get it started sooner. I’m watching way too much stuff. And this is the last season yeah? It will be nice to just watch it all and not have to wait.

I am hoping the comics give me some more info about how it went from the Chosen One to the Chosen All and back again too. I’m reading the Buffy and Angel comics at the same time - since they cross over like the show but I feel like I should finish them this week.

i am yet to watch Angel, I only watched one episode with Buffy in :bradley:

Don’t get me wrong - Buffy is my favorite of the two for sure but Angel has some truly amazing moments and writing. Some of the emotional gut punches are so severe I still get goosebumps thinking about them now. it really is the most fun for me to rewatch both shows together and get all the cross overs and mutual references as they happen in both shows.

I'm not saying there couldn't be, but I think they'd have a difficult time explaining it in a way that makes sense. So much of the world doesn't understand anything about trans people so if they were able to do it properly in a way that was true to what trans people not only deal with, but the biology and science behind it, I say great!

But I also don't know if it "makes sense" given the history of the show. I mean, think about this: with non-binary people...are they suddenly supposed to completely change the legend and lore of "one girl in all the world" to "one them in all the world"?

The focus of the show has always been about female empowerment at it's core, so I don't think the show should rewrite it's entire lore just to accommodate and be inclusive of other groups. However, considering they changed the way it works with the end of Season 7, they could easily come up with a way to incorporate other types of people in a way that makes sense (although Season 7 is just one giant season of plotholes so maybe not lol)

NEW stories need to be made for all the other groups, versus rewriting history in order to provide them with the stage. Give them a new stage and push forward. Just like how many POC complain that instead of making new bad ass characters to represent them, they keep recasting white characters and making them black. POC and marginalized groups deserve quality stories tailored to them, versus drag and dropping old stories because writers are too damn lazy.

I can understand your point but respectfully disagree. The show is all about female empowerment and what better way to bring the Buffy lore into the 21st century than to proudly say trans women are women and can be slayers too. It's not rewriting any part of the show's lore because there was nothing said about who "qualifies" as a woman in the show itself.

I do agree that POC and marginalised groups should be better represented though, and not with the drag and drop approach that was initially suggested for the new reboot before being quietly discarded when there was such a big backlash.

I also think, as good as Buffy was at certain types of representation, the black characters were also a little stereotyped. All the black slayers were poor, working class and dare I say ghettoised, and in 2020 it gives the very true impression that they were written by a bunch of out-of-touch white writers. I'm glad that Joss Whedon had the sense to hire Monica Owusu-Breen to be the lead writer on the new series.

It hit harder than Buffy's mom's death and that shook me to the core.
