I'm saying that you're defending the current system and blaming those who can't make it on their own on something they're doing, which is an appeal to rugged individualism that conservatives constantly spew. This kind of argument and logic completely ignores the way the system is set up and rigged to benefit the wealthy and the corporations (tax cuts for the rich, corporate welfare, etc.) I'm pointing out that the talking points you're using are the same ones used by Republicans to protect the current system, and ignores the reality that we have endless money to handout to corporations but the minute it comes to helping regular people, suddenly it's too much and just handouts for lazy people. Hence, socialism for the rich and for corporations, rugged individualism for everyone else. The fact you can't see that says more about you and those who buy into that BS than anything else. Those of us who can are simply asking for a fair shake by fixing this rigged system and making it more equal by making the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share, and for once helping out everyday American workers. If minimum wage is held down, other jobs that typically pay only slightly more also largely get held down Lastly when adjusting for inflation and productivity gains, minimum wage and wages in general should have gone up way more than they have. It's rediculous that with GDP growth (even on a per capita basis) this has been the result: As u can see since the 1970s most of the economic output gains per worker have stayed at the top and not trickled down and something needs to be done about that. Forcing higher minimum wages than the pathetic $8/h some States still have is a start. Even low skilled jobs don't deserve wages that low! However I do think there's also a balance to be had. If the minimum wage was raised too much that would be problematic... I also think depending on the economy and cost of living by region the ideal minimum wage in one area may not be the ideal in another For example the NYC economy may benefit and be able to hand a $15/h to $16/h minimum wage but a small town in Kansas probably not This graph is kinda whats happening with the middle class (productivity) benefiting the wealthy(benefiting from profits) Tie productivity to profits for the working class... and … wha lah …. it starts to balance out again … like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still.
