so i think we can all agree that the 2010 shakira classic ‘loca’ is a bop. any objections? dismissed for insanity:trollga:

but here’s the question-why is the spanish version such a mess? you’d think it’d just be the song with a different rapper and spanish lyrics. but no.

the structural changes aren’t too bad, but then we get to the vocal production...

it sounds like it’s recorded on a much cheaper mic, and her voice sounds more forced, in a way. like she’s really trying to sound seductive

the song’s instrumental is, somehow, also not as good. i think they changed some key details that really made the english version

thoughts?

I like the spanish version better. Both vocals and instrumentals sound better in that imo. But I got what you mean tbh

I've always lived with the spanish version, so to me it sounds better :air:

You always (or almost always) end up liking the first version of a song you heard, it's a psychological fact.

I've listened to Shakira's hits a lot since the Superbowl and I noticed how I sometimes like the English version and sometimes the Spanish version depending on which I am most familiar with.

I had always loved the english version the better (even if I live in a latin country). Because, as you point, the production of the spanish version sounds somehow "cheaper" than the english one. The same happens with "Rabiosa", but I think that's because they try to make them sound much more like "merengue", and this type of music has this type of "kind-of-cheap" sound to it.

But you have to know that this songs are originally from El Cata, which now is the featured artists and also the producer so, you can expect that kind of sound from him.

Also, the instrumentals from both the album versions are switched, which means that the instrumental for the spanish version of the video is the instrumental for the english version of the album and so.

In latin countries ita spn pt etc vocal production is more real as recorded. As well as still predominant real instruments. While america vocal production is more about compression filtered clean sound. Ive grown tired of second

Tho in every day stereo sounds better. I prefer rabiosa in eng also loca in eng. Mostly cause of that but also cause more used to that one

The video versions and the album versions are switched as someone said above me.  I think the difference lays in the feeling they're trying to convey. Latin music is more "real" that English music which is really polished.

Kindness rules all.

I also prefer the Spanish version of Whenever, Wherever. Most of her songs are better in Spanish actually. I do prefer La La La in English tho.

Couldn't agree more with you!

I always thought that some songs (not only from Shakira) are just meant to be in their original language.. I have another examples from her catalogue that I just don't get: I Can't Remember To Forget You and Hips Don't Lie (Like why, JUST WHY?) and the sad thing here is that she always sings the English version of the Spanish songs when she's on tour :bradley:
