Majority of Dem Voters More Likely To Support Bernie After Iowa Caucuses

The majority of Democratic voters nationwide are "more likely" to vote for Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in the aftermath of the Iowa caucuses, while significantly less said the same about former Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg, according to new polling data.

 

A full 52 percent of respondents to the Morning Consult survey, which was released Thursday, said they were leaning more toward backing Sanders for the Democratic nomination following Iowa's Monday caucuses. Of those, 29 percent said they were "much more likely," while 23 percent said they were "somewhat more likely."

 

Despite performing poorly in Iowa, former Vice President Joe Biden came in second in the polling, with 48 percent saying they were more likely to vote for him. Buttigieg, who prematurely declared he was "victorious" in Iowa, saw significantly less enthusiasm, with just 38 percent saying they were more likely to back him. Of those respondents, only 14 percent said they were "much more likely" to vote for the former South Bend, Indiana, mayor.

 

Meanwhile, 26 percent of respondents said they were "somewhat" or "much" less likely to vote for Sanders after Iowa, while 29 percent said the same of Biden and 28 percent said the same of Buttigieg.

i'm done with polls for now. last time they said biden was going to come in second and the guy came in fourth. there were like 3 people sitting in joe biden's corner at caucus. people say one thing on the phone and then when it's time to punch a hole in a card it's a whole different story.

It was clear from the start Biden only polled high because most none voters, undecided voters, and people who know nothing about politics will answer Biden. But none of them will go out of their way to support his campaign financially or by voting.

well it certainly wasn't clear to me. and people who know nothing about politics don't only go biden.

Well Biden is the only one who has name recognition, specially after recently serving for Obama's VP. This is why everyone say Biden because its what they know, but he does not have passionate supporters who like his policies. This is exactly why he failed badly when it was time for people to vote.

i would argue that sanders has name recognition too, especially among democrats. i would also argue that people instead have generally gone off biden for various reasons and see a better candidate for that moderate lane, which in iowa became buttigieg.
