Republican senator Mitt Romney just revealed that he plans to convict Trump on abuse of power. He's the first (and likely only) Republican senator to go against the GOP for the removal of Trump from office.

The voting will start at 4PM E.S.T. and it's highly predicted that Trump will be acquitted regardless.

I'm personally shocked cause I didn't think Romney had the balls to stand against Trump and the rest of the GOP, but guess I ate my own words :vegas:

Mister G

Romney should switch parties. That’ll really stick it to the Republicans. Not that it would do much but at least it’d be a nice way of saying f*** you to those immoral crooks that lick Trump’s boots everyday.

This sore loser:ladyhaha:

He's so pissed that Trump won and he failed.

Imagine committing political suicide just to spite Trump.

Considering that the Republican Party is basically the Trump Party now, he will face immense backlash but this kind of posturing is the only way for him to stay relevant.

Mitt has said many times that he is frightened with where the Republican party is heading. He is totally conservative but he is not racist, not xenophobic, not islamaphobic etc...unlike many in the republican party at the moment. I really hope he manages to help temper the Republican party back to what it was before Trump (yes I know the party always was too conservative for my liking and many of you here but at least it wasn't as blatantly racist and right wing ish as it is now).

Imagine thinking it’s okay to let the president break the law, and calling those tho want to convict a criminal “sore loser”

lol like sis, you’re the real loser here :bradley:

That is actually a major problem you just highlighted there. The Republican Party is like a cult, and Trump is their god.

I'm a bit more cynical, I see 1 person doing this as a way of them legitimizing his "Acquittal" as being anything other than a rigged process down the road :green:

Just as Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski constantly play a "I'm going to work with dems out of my own integrity!" angle every single time something controversial and beyond the pale happens, and both pretty much always back out last second.

I thought about "good for him" and just that, but I mean... he has had several "im voting with my morals" moments in his career, so I actually wasn't that surprised by this.

We'll see how the backlash hits him and how much there is after this (and if hes planning on retiring, not running again, etc.)
