RCP's commentary is usually too conservative for my blood, but I think this is a good read in terms of what the plausible outcomes tonight are, and how it would affect how people view the top-tier candidates in the weeks to come: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2020/02/03/four_scenarios_for_tonights_caucuses_142298.html

The summary is basically that unless Biden wins or finishes in a strong second, it will be much harder for him to make the electability case (duh) and weed out the other centrist candidates to ensure he maintains a viable path to the nomination. Particularly if Klobuchar surprises.

I really hope she does surprise us (with a strong 3rd or 2nd) because I think she's more down to earth than Pete or Biden.

I can agree with this. Biden getting 3rd or 4th could unhinge his entire campaign especially if Bernie wins iowa as he's running away with NH at the current moment. In that scenario, we end up getting a bloomberg vs bernie head to head by super tuesday.

Caucus is so stupid. Who invented it? Its 2020. :saladga:

Bernie and Biden are the favourites, but that 15% that the candidates must get to be eligible makes this so unpredictable.

Caucuses used to be the original system. In fact, there was a time when the DNC would have a closed door meeting, pick a nominee, and announce. Without any primaries whatsoever. Until as recently as the 70s. People rioted and they were forced to change.

There should be a tiered semi-open primary where all registered Democrats and independents can vote. They can select their preferences and list Top 3 candidates, so votes can go to other candidate if their top drops out.

Bernie is going to win. I think Joe Biden is going to do a lot worse than predicted.
