StrawberryBlond 14,900
Acclaim is all well and good but my question is, why are people praising them so much when Maroon 5 got blasted for even agreeing to perform last year because of the scandal with Kapernick? Is it because they're two Latinas performing that it somehow makes it ok?

Whatever this scandal is I totally missed it They were criticised for even accepting the chance to perform after the way Colin Kaepernick had been treated by the NFL for kneeling during the national anthem (to protest against police brutality). He's now unsigned. In 2017, he filed a complaint against the NFL for allegedly colluding to keep him out of the league. So, by the time Maroon 5 performed last year, the scandal was at fever pitch and it was rumoured that many black artists had been asked to perform but turned down the opportunity in support of Kaepernick. So, Maroon 5 were viewed as straight white males accepting an opportunity because it didn't affect them and they didn't care about racial inequality. Then their performance was bad and that only made the hate against them worse. Some critics even said they were chosen because it was a safe, uncontroversial choice after the scandal. Basically, it was like no one wanted to perform last year and be seen in support of the NFL, so the knives could've been out for anyone who chose to do it. That's why I'm confused that anyone's truly getting praise who's performing afterwards. Is it because last year (ironically, just days after Maroon 5's show), Kaepernick had reached a settlement with the NFL? Or is it because 2 Latinas are seen as non-white and therefore, above criticism? Either way, I find it weird how quickly people move on.

Ppl wanna boycott stuff so frequently now a days one can't keep up with it all I'd say it's a combination of 2 things #1 it's just time. The fever high moment was already last year and the media and people do forget about stuff quickly #2 anything to do with race an priveledge because white men are at the top of the chain in terms of gender and race they always get hit the hardest whever a controversy of some sort comes up I don't think some ppl realize that being being so agressive they start to give the impression that they don't want to just tear down and equalize priveledge for everyone. There's some people that seem to want it outright reversed I think those ppl are a small percentage of ppl because they are so loud on social media it makes it appear that more ppl think that way then there truly are Cuz extreme SJWs and cancel culture extrimists that go way overboard in everything I don't really know all that many ppl in real life that are like that But they are so loud on twitter, Reddit and pop forums and somehow their influence sometimes manages to sway what the media will and won't say or what celebrities will avoid talking about cuz no one ones to risk triggering the ire of the cancel culture and SJW community
