They have revenue and expenses … taxes add up a good size of that ,, 'all the taxes' … so property tax might not be a big percentage by itself … but regulation this, fee that, permit here .. all adds to the total cost of ownership …. BIG Corportations get tax breaks that individuals don't … So grouping "Landowners" as all rich and having lots of extra money is a pretty narrow view ... . I think many opinions are totally uneducated to the real economy that's exists .. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. Make them pay their fair share is fine... But if u wanna target truly disproportionate extreme wealth u have to go after the very wealthy individuals themselves (the billionaires) U do that with hikes on capital gains taxes or even a wealth tax is pulled off properly (tho I think 8% is a little too high)... But u don't really target them with Corporate taxes I find ppl don't understand the connection between Corporations and extremely wealthy individuals... There is a connection but they aren't directly the same thing... I know a lot of landlords and they are not rich (they are upper middle class at best, many just middle class) I'm sure there's very rich ppl too buying up properties and renting them out but that's not the majority of ppl. Most ppl have their own house and then 1 other investment home... Or sometimes their own home and they rent out a portuon They may be ok off but add a lot of expense and they will still have to pass it on to consumer A tenent uses water, hydro, wears out house etc. Then u still gotta pay taxes and other costs Ppl don't understand the most basic things of business if they think u can significantly raise taxes on landlords and not expect it to affect rents No one is gonna rent out their property for a loss Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yup same as here in Canada. Most landlords are not rich... Yes my relatives in Houston say the same thing. Californians are the worst people on the planet. It all started in Hollywood and it’s culture of fakeness and celebration of profiteering, but now all of California is infected with it: snobbery, ignorance, hatred for sharing, intolerance, talking down on people, disdain for tradition, cult of youth, love of plastic, hypocrisy. Californians are trying to get away from each other, but then end up in the same places. And making those places as unbearable as the places they left.
