Is Dua Lipa the trendsetter of 2020 Pop music?

Her sophomore album even from the name (Future Nostalgia) is clearly modern Pop with influence from past decades.

No other major Pop artist at the moment has a hit song with this sound.

Most popular songs now are mostly Hip-Hop/Trap/R&B and we have alt-Pop like Billie Eilish.

The Weeknd has released a song that is  80’s inspired as well (Blinding Lights).

Will Dua Lipa usher in a new wave of Pop music?

I guess it depends on how much the singles and era smash. We know anytime a main girl smashes with a certain sound the other girls tend to follow suit. Excited to see her take over. :vegas:

Honestly I'll take anything that doesn't have the annoying high hat loop

And it seems like everyone popular also wants that and wants GOOD music to be made, so I'll say yes!

I don't know about that but she's definitely making the best pop music right now. Future Nostalgia will be the best pop album of 2020.

It's too early to say that, it hasn't peaked in many markets yet. It will enter the top 10 in the U.S. for the first time next week. But it already has 350,000,000 streams on Spotify.

I don’t think dua is going to make everyone go 80s/90s “nostalgic” pop, no. I think for the past few years popular music has been about doing what you feel like doing not necessarily following a sound or trend like people did back in 2010 with electronic pop or 2014 with tropicpop. Many artists have released their 80s esq albums with little actual impact. Gaga didn’t make everyone go 80s rock-pop with BTW, Charlie Puth didn’t make anyone follow his 80s production, and Dua isn’t going to either imo. If other artists release more 80s music it’s probably less likely from influence and watching the charts and more like wanting to make it. Radio is still diverse enough to allow other genres to thrive. I have no doubt by the end of this year we will still have a diverse range of music on the charts like it should imo.

Yes her team seems to have identified the future trend and got in early.

It's why I wished LG had released sooner. She is gonna have  a similar sound but people will say Dua did it first.

Dua Lipa started the trend in pop music when she made the ‘80 version remix of New Rules

She did twice with Don’t Start Now

the Weekend has followed with Blinding Lights

Stupid Love is in the same category

That's what happens when you don't release for a million years.

not a trend setter for sure, i don't she has that kind of impact

Maybe not but she has support from her label and a great team who is pushing her. Her songs will be all over the radio this summer even if she has no personality. Then other producers will follow that sound for Selena, Ariana, and others.

that's not being a trendsetter though. By definition, you have to set a trend to be a trendsetter, not to identify the future ones :trollga:
