No other major Pop artist at the moment has a hit song with this sound. Most popular songs now are mostly Hip-Hop/Trap/R&B and we have alt-Pop like Billie Eilish. I think for the past few years popular music has been about doing what you feel like doing not necessarily following a sound or trend like people did back in 2010 with electronic pop or 2014 with tropicpop. Many artists have released their 80s esq albums with little actual impact. Gaga didn’t make everyone go 80s rock-pop with BTW, Charlie Puth didn’t make anyone follow his 80s production, and Dua isn’t going to either imo. If other artists release more 80s music it’s probably less likely from influence and watching the charts and more like wanting to make it. Radio is still diverse enough to allow other genres to thrive. I have no doubt by the end of this year we will still have a diverse range of music on the charts like it should imo. Her songs will be all over the radio this summer even if she has no personality. Then other producers will follow that sound for Selena, Ariana, and others.
